Why do my rear studs keep breaking off?? They’re torqued to spec!

few sites online and came across this site. See what you think.
The guy can't do math or recognize he has major errors in his little chart. The rest of the page is fine.

Agreed, that chart is problematic. 9/16” gets 130-140 but it’s closest metric equivalent 14mm only gets 85-90? Doesn’t add up!

Like others have said, torque to manufacturer’s spec and have a nice day!

I’ve not followed the link or checked values, but there is a relationship between torque and thread pitch etc.

i.e. It’s not always as simple as just comparing similar diameters or converting from metric to imperial just based on closest size :like:

Anyway, 150 foot pounds seems too much
Just wondering, how did you arrive to that conclusion? There is no guessing game around it - our stock wheel studs are standard 10.9 grade 14mm bolts, and they take 148 ft-lbs of torque for plain&dry application. There is no voodoo magic around it, these studs are engineered to take that load.

Now, if you have some special aftermarket application, or titanium studs from Porsche, it all may be different. But otherwise, I don't quite understand why not just go with what very smart people engineered and tested

Agreed.

My primary point was that the torque chart is very problematic and that was just one example.

What everyone should be doing is just follow the manufacturer specifications. 👍

I ordered a new rim. They gave me 20 percent off. It should ship tomorrow so I should have it this weekend.
I also have to look over the install for that uneven part.

OK my new wheel came in yesterday. I am just looking over the install and it looks fine. I guess that black part looked crooked when I look at it from an angle but it seems fine it’s pretty straight.

Looks straight. Look how quickly the stupid rotors just rust out in just about 10 days of brig parked.

My rotors are worse after just 2 rainy days. It's flash rust. One decent stop and back to clean.
damn just two days. I’m on my way to the car wash. It’s been almost 2 weeks. I left it sitting in the driveway.
