My office window looks out on a major intersection and I can identify at least a half dozen regulars without even looking up simply by the sound and their adolescent behavior.
Ok. Point taken... but if I wave again next time I go by ur window, are you gonna wave bk?
Cuz so far ...ya haven't!! 🙄

Why would he need a sticker announcing to people they are being recorded?
It is illegal in some states without consent I believe. I always inform passengers that everything is being recorded.

Supreme Court has affirmed that if you are in public you give consent to be recorded in any means used otherwise there would be no CCTV in any store, on any street, or in any public building. Only private conversations or settings require two-person consent and that is only in some states.

That's an old Lukas LK7900. My current preferred model is a Qvia QR790-S 2 channel (front and back).
Dual channel for sure is the way to go. The 4K resolution and WDR cameras are a must. I'm sure your video might be compressed, but it is very dim. Hopefully your new set up is even better.

Overall, dual dash cam is IMO #1 must-have mod to any vehicle. Got one in wife's truck, got one in my Bullitt.
Bonus is I get some footage from my track days.

I think precisely the reason why dash cams give you an option of turning off the microphone. Those settings should stay permanent when the cam cycles power off/on.

Those stickers and warnings to me make the most sense in Ubers, or any ride-sharing service. For my own use, I find the likelyhood of needing to tell my passengers (really, just a passenger, which is 99% my wife) lot lower than the annoyance of an ugly label that says "you are being recorded."

My dashcam has saved my ass on multiple occasions. Most recently, was an accident where the other driver sped up to try to prevent me from changing lanes. He went into the left turn lane, then made a lane change back to the lane I now controlled, and scraped my front bumper (pre-Mustang). This police department does not give you a police report. It gets uuploaded and you can purchase it f you want a copy. A few days later, I purchased copy and I found that he misunderstood something and wrote me as being at fault. I took my videos to the police department. They had it changed, with a revised report immediately.

Is the camera hardwired at the mirror?

What county in Mass.? I am in Norfolk county.
It's hardwired back to the fuse panel. We're in Bristol county.

Is there a sticker telling anyone they are being recorded?

Not in Massachusetts (or anywhere else in the 1st US Circuit). There was a notable ruling against Boston that effectively held that if the camera is visible (mine clearly is) that the other person is adequately informed and protected from surrupticious recording.

Yeaaaah, I would have pulled you over too.

A yellow light doesn't mean to keep going and barely make it through the light, it means to come to a stop and wait for the next one.

The cop was actually cool letting you go, you did run a red light.

Be thankful. Your dash camera didn't help you, it only would have proved your guilt in running the light.

My apologies, replaced the offensive comment in my post with "the city".

I just hate aggressive ticketing, period, to generate revenue. In my experience that's what I felt vising Virginia for the first time, small country town.

Ah. I gather I'm not the only one here who's been dragged through the courts by a lady of the night, claiming the USD 50 paid did not include permission to record and upload my in-car recordings to various video sharing sites.

Ever since I always prominently display "You may be recorded" on various stickers inside the car, as well as in the trunk. Lesson learned.

I thought it has been ruled on by SCOTUS. It is not illegal to record someone without their consent in a public place if they are visible and audible, especially if they don’t have reasonable expectations of privacy.

Multiple circuits, including the 1st Circuit, have ruled that but not SCOTUS to date.
