I want one for sure. In fact, I am saving pennies to be able to buy one...and I plan to hold onto it forever to be passed down to one of my kids.
I am a bit disappointed in the lack of PP upgrades available, but that means that I will likely be going my own route with coilovers and other upgrades (such as brake calipers, exhaust, etc). Even thinking about integrating a roll bar, not for safety so much as for rigidity and the ability to take it to the track (having in a past life raced motorcycles, I am looking forward to going in circles in a car for the first time).
Oh, and as mentioned, having kids (3 and 4) means without a doubt they will be part of the open air experience and are a big reason for me wanting a vert. If not for the kids, I seriously doubt that I would even be thinking about a convertible...

Actually to Phil, I have driven a hard top 2013 BMW Z4 xdrive35is (or something like that). That thing rattled worse than a snake! It seemed like the rollover bars and the roof weren't having a good time together...sounded like they were on top of each other really. Just rattling and creaking away over every bump/wheel movement.

It was a neat car however; nice drive feel, but rather slow.

Ok, so if you ordered a convertible you are a top down lover - and if you ordered a coupe, you're not. And if you're not, don't buy one and stop bashing.
I think the op was interested in both sides?

No bashing here, my preference is coupes / fastbacks. Do not like the way verts look when the top is up, but when the top is down, they are fun!!! Living in the midwest, verts are impractical. Now if I lived in FL.......

I have ordered the GT Convertible and can not wait - I know it will be worth it! In high school I drove my dad's CJ5 and my first car was a Fiat 850 Spider. I have owned coupes, convertibles, SUVs, T-tops and sedans but my love has always been the convertible. Ten years ago I decided to get rid of my Volvo sedan and get a 2004 Mustang Convertible - for the entire 10 years I drove it never once did a day go by that I didn't love the way the car looked - top up or down but of course, much better down. With that convertible I have lived in southern Illinois, Miami and San Antonio and it was my daily commuter. I know what it's like to drive in snow, rain, and extreme heat, and every chance when the weather was there, the top was down. Hell, even if it was a little chilly, nothing like taking the top down, rolling the windows up, and if need be, turn the heater on. As far as noise, I had an aftermarket stereo with an integrated microphone for cell phone and I could easily carry on conversations with the top down - yes I had to roll the windows up but if you want to talk on your cell in your coupe you roll up your windows. Sadly, I just sold my 2004 (a father bought it for his 16-yo son). I told him the same thing I told my son who just got a Jeep Wrangler - once you get a convertible, you'll never go back. You may throughout your life have different cars based on your family, but you will go back. And as for the $$$ difference in getting the convertible, never came into the question - when you know what you want, you get it.

Not really an answer to the OP, but following the course of this thread....

'03 GT Convertible owner now. Will probably never get another coupe. As long as it's at least 40 out and not precipitating, the top is down and the stereo is blaring. Nothing like the freedom of nothing between you and the open sky cruising down the highway or through winding country roads.

Pros: all of the above, no blind spots, compliments from every direction
Cons: can't run Road America (or similar courses) without a roll-bar
The 2015: I like the lines they achieved in the vert better. It just looks more streamlined to me. The greenhouse seems to be a size too small sitting on the body of the coupe.

One of the best driving experiences I've ever had was driving my convertible down the twistys between Bend Oregon and Eugene with the top down at 2am a few Junes ago. Flying down the canyons with a cool breeze and being able to see the stars and the beautiful scenery was pure bliss.

The S550 convertible is not suppose to look like a fastback. That’s why they make two versions. It’s going to be a bit noisier, it’s a convertible. How much scenery did you see cruizing the Blue Ridge parkway with your head hanging out the window? The current top material debuted in 2003 with the Cobra. It’s a european high end type of top. Said goodbye to the vinyl material. It’s cooler than vinyl in the summer. Tops now have an insolution layer to retain heat in winter and keep heat out in the summer. Someone mentioned two seats. When has a Mustang ever had usuable rear seats. Most modders remove them to lessen weight. Easy to break into? So is any car. An ally apple will open a window in a millasecond and not can open the top.

All of the reasons I’ve read about not owning a vert is a poor excuse to not buy other than they are 5k or more in cost. Maintenance on a top is less than a coupe. They removed the hydrolics and replaced with a fast reliable mechanical lift to raise the top. This is the fourth ragtop.. yes this Mustang has a true ragtop. The fourth ragtop I’ve owned. I’ve owned two coupes. Years ago Mustang had three versions. Coupe, fastback and vert. The fastback has poor visibility and Ford resorted to adding cameras, side sensors to the S550 to make it safer.

All in all. As one stated. The vert is a touring car. Meant to take to the back roads to enjoy the view. The S550 is fast too. It’s a special car for special Mustang lovers. The Mustang be it fastback aka Coupe or Vert, I love them both. The vert is more relaxing and enjoy the ride here in Tennessee.

I didn't consider a convertible because I don't even like a sunroof, much less NO roof. I also don't like the wind in my face, sunburn on my shaved head, bugs getting on me at stoplights, sucking in more of others' exhaust, people looking at me, etc. Then you get into getting squished in a rollover, and no crash protection up top. I have no problem with a convertible--it's just not for me. They seem like more of a novelty than a potential DD. A "let's take the vert out for a spin" once a week or month.

I agree with all you have said. I also think a vert is more for us “older” type. I enjoy the open road feeling of my vert. It isn’t my DD. Even if I had a coupe it wouldn’t be a DD. I am a pickup guy and enjoy snowmobiling and ATVing. Driving my vert gives me more of the outdoors feeling I have when ATVing (without the dust)

BTW..... love your color. It was one of my choices, but my F150 is RR and I needed a color change.

Mine is a daily driver. I love driving that car. Top up when it’s hot. I dont see any coupes driving around with windows down when it’s 95 outside. The sun starts setting or cloudy days, the top comes down. Last October I had a full size skeleton “Mr.Bones” that his eyes lit up red riding in the so called back seat. Got lots of smiles. There is a road in east Tennessee I’m itching to get on. It’s called “The Dragon” with it’s numerous turns and curves.

Someone mentioned wind in thier face negatively. I have a windshield.. duhh. I love Mustangs, and love this convertible. Drive Topless.

While I would love a Vert - here in Iowa the season for one is pretty darn short. Mine is technically my DD - though I WFH full time so it does not get driven all that much (2016 just turned over 19k). If/when we retire to someplace more Vert friendly I will certainly look for a second maybe classic convertible Mustang.

I started with a '75 MG Midget in 1989 and kept it until No. 1 was born in 1996. Then I bought a TR8 in 2004 and sold in 2009. Always loved convertibles. Finally reached a point in my life when I am no longer ferrying kids around and wanted to get something with pizzaz. Looked at Challengers because they had a useable back seat, then thought, not buying this to cart my friends around. Wife suggested back to a Mustang and get the convertible, so we can cruise top down whenever we like. So there it is. I do like the looks of the coupe but hey, happy wife, happy life!

Mine is going to be a daily driver year round. Toronto winters aren't too bad but we do have our cold and snow (and salt). I bought it to drive and am not worried about wear and tear. I'll take bugs and paint chips on the front over permanent show shine any day.
