For us here's our reasons:

1) We needed a car asap as our GS lease is ending in about 2 weeks.

2) I wanted a vert, wife wanted a coupe, gonna be wife's car so wife won.

3) I guess the coupe is a bit safer as well

I originally wanted a vert but with none of the performance package options being available, I went with the fastback instead.

never had the desire for a vert. i don't want to have to take care of the cloth cover, and as quickly as the weather changes around here, i would worry about getting caught in a sudden storm.

If there ever was a Vehicle meant to be a Convertible, its the 2015 Mustang. Top up or down, no comparison between the profile of the Fastback/Coupe and the Convertible, IMO.

Loses the fastback looks, gains weight, increased NVH, decreased rigidity.

Convertibles can never be true drag cars.

+1. Took the thoughts right out of my head. Mustang to me is a performance car and all of those just detract from that.

And i can't stand soft top convertibles. IMO they destroy the clean lines of a car.

I live in the Seattle area, so get to have the top down 2-3 months out of the year? Fastback for me.

Never been a huge vert guy, and I think although a nice looking car, the vert looses a ton of character and look from the fastback, rear end looks much more subdued to me. Also don't like that they still stuck an antenna (for sat or whatever) on the trunk.

I've ridden in several convertibles - even rented one a time or two - but I've never had the desire to own one. For me, it all boils down to aesthetics. I just prefer the look of a solid roofline and rear glass. That's especially true with the S550.

See, I am likely getting a convertible, so let me be devil's advocate. I do live in the Pacific NW, so we get more than our share of rain, but I will still probably go with it for a couple of reasons:

1) I would put the top down at every opportunity, I love driving with the top down. Have rented several and was never disappointed.
2) While I like the look and profile of the fastback, it really seriously makes the back seat totally unusable. Have sat in my '06 GT back seat and a 13 back seat, they are manageable. The Fastback of the 15 makes the backseat downright unusable for anyone over 5'6". Since I am pretty sure both kids are going to be taller than that, I would only get another 4-5 years until no kids could ride. Not sure the '15 vert headroom, but the '14 is fine for me and my 5'11" frame.
3) My wife is not a big fan of driving a convertible, so she will not be tempted to try to drive it (along with the manual) :)

This is a special car for me, have worked long and hard to be able to pay it off without sacrificing elsewhere, so V8 and 'vert were the target!
