I mean, yeah I wanna complain but I also wanna know why it's $180/day.

I've seen some people pay $300.

track rental 3-5000/day and fancier tracks a heck of a lot more. ambulance crew $100/hr x 2 crews, crash recovery crew ($?), event liability insurance (typically not included in rental, and several thousand dollars), organizer expenses and 'profits'. Some instructors get paid, while others get to drive for 'free'.

Depending on how many entrants and say 3 running groups, an organizer needs 20 cars/session minimum to come anywhere close to just breaking even.

Also it keeps the rabble away. Otherwise you'd have every dick and harry who thinks they are the next cast of Speed Racer showing up, losing control of their car and otherwise being a general nuisance and ruining the day for everybody.

My friend Harry Dick said he's fast in his Miata covered in Japanese cartoon women.

I do agree but then I look at the drag strip for $50 per night...
any monkey can go fast in a straight line. And the likelihood of binning it into the gravel trap is zero since there isn't one and should the car disintegrate bouncing off concrete walls, it's a few minutes work with a broom to clean it all up.

Most road courses you should get at least 5 and up to 7 30 minute sessions per day.

Ten rears ago when I was the treasurer for an SCCA region it was typically about $25-30k a weekend to cover all the track related expenses. $h!t adds up.

The races where typically a 2.5 day event (if you did not do practice day), and you had over an hour of track time. The entry fee was usually $300.

Corner workers.
Emergency workers.
Track maintenance workers.
Catering sometimes.
Track organizations need to make a profit as well.
The Track owners need to make money for supplying a Track to have fun on.

My local club is 5 sessions at 20 minutes each but you can't really complain at $180 per day.

Depends a lot on the track. Some are relatively cheap. Others, not so much.

Going rates with a standup organization at a decent track is routinely at LEAST $300 per day and up. $180 a day is on the cheap side.

It costs a lot to put together a track event. Cost of the facilities, liability insurance, corner workers, standby emergency services, etc. Plus many organizers tend to try to make a little profit for their effort (and risk).

The price to rent COTA is nearing 60k per day. A typical 3 day HPDE participant price of around 1500-1600 is not unheard of.

By contrast, I can get into a weekend event at my local track for around $400. I thought it was awesome till I took a road trip to a REAL road course.........

Not to get off subject but I would love to take a trip out to Cali for Laguna Seca or Willow Springs.

The only thing AZ really has going for it are the diverse tracks available. Even an oval!

I did a 2 day Superbike school/camp at Laguna Seca a few years ago.
What a fun time.

Road America is $330 - $360, plus track insurance and a stall at the Hagerty tech center (not needed, but recommended). So, it gets pretty expensive. But Road America is a beautiful challenging 4 mile course to drive. I ran it a number of times when I was young. I seriously considered taking my Porsche there one time, to relive the memories. But, no roll bar.
