I posted a thread here a while ago about manuals vs. auto in a roadrace environment.

Here is what I've found.

Automatics are undoubtedly quicker shifting, but their achilles heel is they break when they get hot. And they get very hot.
For drag racing either the A10 or A6 would be the faster way to go, but in roadracing, the manual is better, cheaper and more reliable.
That is my takeway anyway.

Faster? Who cares? In five years, electrics will make the quickest muscle cars on the road look like a joke.

A manual transmission lets you be part of the system in a way that the auto trans doesn’t. That involvement is what makes driving fun.

Now I’m just waiting for the thread arguing that autonomously controlled cars are “better.”

Plenty of people care about faster....you care about faster...or you would drive a honda and not be "one with the manual transmission".

In 5 years we won't have any muscle cars. All will be automatics w/ electric motors

A car has to be fast enough to be fun...of course. But I recommend not getting attached to the idea that faster is always better though.

I care about 'faster', but only to a point.

Cue Zager & Evans:

Your arms hangin' limp at your sides
Your legs got nothin' to do
Some machine's doin' that for you"

Yeah, I care about horsepower, but only to a point. After that you can keep your HP/TQ......said no one ever.

Not everybody who owns a performance car (of any sort here) races it.

Not everybody who races, does their racing at the drag strip. Or away from the traffic light when it goes green. Or even in response to a challenge from a roll.

If I have to slow down for any corner I'm likely to encounter, like the one below, I've got enough HP.

If X amount more HP than that can only be had with an automatic transmission, you can have my share.

Prediction: within the next 10 years, Formula 1 will become full time Formula E.
It disgusts me, but is in the cards. Transmissions will become a non issue.
NASCAR Neanderthals will probably be hybrid soon.

Will be fast as hell but lacking in soul and emotion.
