My seat backs not only don't cool, but they actually begin to heat even when I'm not in the seat. It's pretty clear that the cooling unit in the seat back is ineffective given its location and inability to draw in cabin air and/or carry away waste heat.

Please keep in mind, if you are feeling cooling on the very bottom of the back, in the lumbar area, that is actually coming from the seat bottom as the parts that provide heating/cooling in the seat back are significantly higher than that. There is nothing in that area to provide cooling.
This. I feel cold air on my lower back, but if I touch the seat back in that area with my hand it is obvious that the cool air is not coming from the back. It should also be noted that the cooled seats don't work well with the windows down as they cool the air within the cabin before fanning it through the seat. For best results keep the windows up and A/C on.

This is exactly what I'm experiencing. The back tends to get very hot.

I'm double posting since we have 2 threads going but I literally just got off the phone with the Regional Ford Service Manager for my area. He told me that Ford is aware of the problem and is working on a fix. He also mentioned that there are 2 separate problems. One where the seat back cooling is just insufficient due to the design, the other is, as many people have mentioned here, the seatbacks are actually heating when cooling is turned on.

I don't have the problem where it is heating but I genuinely hope Ford fixes that problem first for you all experiencing that. In that case you can't even use the cooling on the seat bottom!

This doesn't mean don't take it to the dealer. Still take it in to register the complaint. That way when the TSB is issued you should still be able to get it covered under warranty when Ford creates the fix. In the mean time, we just need to watch for the TSB. Is there a better place to see those other than myford.com?

Good to hear. This is the first time I ve see someone post that ford is looking into it:) It kind of seemed they were ignoring the problem for the past couple months.

I get cold air up at my shoulders/neck the first couple of minutes after turning the seat cooling on. It seems to fade away after the first minute or two. I'm pretty happy with how they work really.

Mine was awful today. Left the car running when I ran in to let the dogs out during work. Hopped back into the car and the seat bottoms were great. The seat back felt like the heater was on.

There are a lot of people complaining about seatbacks not cooling, me included. I want to know how many people out there who have seats that work to give the rest of us some hope that there is a possible fix.
Mine don't. And the seat bottom feels weird on cool.

It makes a difference to not slam myself all the way into the pocket of the seat. It seems like it's easy to block the air flow with my body. If I give it just a little space, I can feel the air flow up to about top-of-kidney height, mid-back.

It's not nearly as effective as I wish it was.

Yea, I tested this on the way home today. If I pushed my head slightly back on the head rest to lift my back I'd feel cool air, then it seemed to go away if I let my back down.

My girlfriend had on a mini-skirt when we went out the other night and I turned her seat cooling on high. Within minutes she said her ass and kitty were getting cold and asked what I did. I told her and asked if her back was cooling off as well and she said no. I have found the same with the drivers seat. not much of anything with the back part, just the bottom cushion.
