....We are not testing some scientific theory that needs to be vetted by our pears before having any credence....
First of all, I don’t find fruit to be that helpful in vetting ideas. Secondly, vetting the idea was exactly what you said you wanted to do in post number one.

.... We are bitching about stuff that happened during development of an engine about 28 years ago. And nothing that comes out of that discussion has any meanful result for anything else except for car enthusiasts swapping spit back and forth in a car enthusist forum....
Actually, you and your buddy brought this up to begin with.

Ok so first you said it looked more possible; now you say it feels more possible. I’m not a psychologist so I’m not qualified to discuss your feelings on the practicality of an engine swap. If you want to discuss hurdles you might encounter, perhaps we would have something to discuss. I can say, thought, that feelings aren’t highly reliable when attempting something highly technical in nature.

I actually find this single-minded determination you display refreshing and lacking in many of today’s youth that I deal with. It can only hold you in good stead in your chosen profession.

Would you readily believe someone you didn't know who is making statements which can't immediately be backed up by something you know to be fact? This is purely a yes or no question.
People have are showed you that the motor was designed for both.
All of Ford's FWD engine platforms come in at 3.9 inches to 4.1 inches.
The 3.0 pushrod came in around 4.3 inches and was a tight fit in the Taurus.
Same for the 3.0 SHO.
The length of those motors help lead to their down fall.
The 3.4 SHO V-8 was not related and had a bore spacing of 4.016 inches.
This was based off of a Porsche design that was later inherited by Jaguar and Land Rover.
The V-6 found in both was based off of the Duratec line and spawned the V-8s and the V-12.
They had the same bore spacing as the 2.5 Duratec V-6 that was in fact designed by Porsche for FWD applications most likely for VW.
The 3.8 -3.9 -4.2 was slated during it's conception to be a FWD motor for a mid size car.
That car became the Taurus/Sable.
The 3.8 was used early on in the Foxbody as a stop gap for certain markets.
Bore spacing was 3.8 inches and it found true success in the Taurus chassis which was designed for..
For the record, the old cologne V-4/V-6 had a bore spacing of 4.7 inches and was only RWD.
The 4.0 and the 3.0 found in the Ranger are not related.
The shorter bore spacing of the 3.0 led to over heating issues that the motor was infamous for.

I can go on and on with this.......

So yea, anything shorter than 4.3 inches was mostly used for FWD vehicles or econo boxes.

The Mod Motor's design was compromised to fit east to west.
Most engineers thought that RWD was dying off in all forms and only to exist as AWD.

The second one is particularly interesting because it quotes a now retired Ford engineering executive who saw a GT version of the Probe-Stang and noticed that the hood profile would not support putting a V8 under the hood.

Can you cite sources that said the Probe was ever going to have a V8?
Transversely mounted, it takes up no more space front to back as a V-6.
Side to side is a whole different ballgame.

Please keep in mind that the Probe was front wheel drive with a transversely mounted engine.

While we're on the subject, there have been dozens if not a hundred Probes converted to RWD and fitted with a V-8.

Back in the early 2000s I looked at a used Probe GT to possibly purchase. It had the V6, and I still recall how tight that engine fit in the engine bay. One reason I didn't buy it was because I could tell it would be a nightmare to do any work on that tight engine. It literally looked like you'd have to remove the engine to get to anything on the head next to the firewall.

Variable valve actuation is much like displacement on demand.
Instead of cylinders being turned off, the valves are.
On a four valve head, one intake and one exhaust valve is shut down.

The same process that does this is the same as what shuts down cylinders.

An easier way to fix the lack of low rpm grunt is just to add the “hybrid motors” on the front wheels. Cylinder deactivation will probably happen as it’s already there in the competition.

But man the simple “Ford 7.3 Gidzilla” has more and more
“charm” as this thing goes along. If there really is a crate motor and kit I already have a few shops here in Toronto that would do the work. One guy regularity tests his cars on an industrial street in Scarborough which shall remain nameless...

Notice where the cylinders stop?
The rest of the motor is all gears and chain.
Not much room for a transmission.

I'll take a north to south 7.3 any day over this.
