Thanks for the input everyone I do appreciate it.

How about this. who has killed their OPG with a whipple? I understand the insurance but hey if I go whipple and pay 400 for the Whipple insurance it will give me $5000 towards a new longblock if I blow it up.
the steel in the factory OPG isn't very strong. As long as it doesn't get shocked, it should be fine. I have no idea how that would happen.

If you swap the part, it is rather expensive, but predictable. If you don't and the part fails, it will be a hassle. Even with insurance.

What AdrianMAK has told me is that it depends on if you rev bang. Personally, I don't, and I'm conservative with revving high. But if you wanna wind that shit out, the go 4 it

How Many of you did not upgrade your Crank gear and OPG gears when installing a stage 1 or 2 Whipple system?

Hoe many miles do you have on yours with the Whipple installed?

Gotta look at the whole picture 400 is parts without tax, and some free shipping. This also assumes you will Install the parts yourself. There is also opportunity cost unaccounted for if you plan on doing the 6-8 hour install. Assuming you pay yourself as much as a mechanic, figure you'd be out 100/hr@8hr. At least 1200 total. Not saying one way or another, just saying be real with the numbers, not a 400$ slap a JLT intake type shit
Mustangs are like those snaptite plastic car models: you buy them cause they are fun to play with and cheap. I would never tell my girl friend "before we get started I need to think about the op cost of spending next few hours w you." Lol.
Lol, seriously though, dont run heavy oil and rev cold below 185CHT 5 min, and dont bounce redline or run to redline; then dont worry about it. Maybe just upgrade to ATI crank damper and call in good.

Thanks for the input everyone I do appreciate it.

You would much rather swap OPG TG then have a block swapped even if free.
I first rolled stock opg/tg w Whipple. Then Went MMR TG TSS OPG. Then went one track weekend back on stock OPG (was trying different balancer anyway). Pulled apart after to change to TSS OPG IN GT350 pump housing and pan. Pics somewhere on forum. Looked like crank deflection can get the gears slightly into the housing walls on the stock gears if tracked hard. Some metal and wear into housing.

Recent discussion with Whipple on this and their latest testing indicates that aftermarket balancers on stock gears is actually worse. It changes the frequency and lowers it which they feels will cause more stress than the stock damper. Now if you have upgraded the OPG and TG than the aftermarket balancer is fine and will provide good stability especially at high RPM.

That's funny, but girlfriend says it all. When all I had was a gf,time was easy. Having a wife and 2 toddlers finishing an MBA program, hitting a Spartan trifecta and being assistant vp with Merrill Lynch demands a bit more time than a gf
Throw his big dick on your hood
But seriously, what I was saying is taking into consideration those outside factors of time if you don't want to account for a 1300 $ install. I suggest them either way ,which way they get put in is the difference. But it will never be "just 400"

If you're worried about the 400-1500 dollars more this will cost you then you shouldn't do the whipple. Do it once, do it right.

I'm not worried about the extra cost I have two concerns. 1 I don't trust shops to work on my cars. I have never had a good experience with others mechanical work. 2 downtime since it is a daily driver and I need to to get to work and transport kids. I know I could ate a lot of downtime if the opg breaks but just weighing the odds here. Most that I see that have broken them rev too the moon or bounce the rev limiter a lot. I just want it for the feel of the occasional highway punch I'm not about drag racing if anything I like hsde

Someone who has done opg before can knock them out in 6-8 hours if they're good. And a whipple install in a little longer time. If you do them together it would be cut even shorter

I dont trust shops either. Can afford tools and a spare car just on savings of dealing w shops and dishonest people. Id rather ruin my own car learning than pay someone to rip me off while ruining the car.

Not saying this applied to anyone, but if making payments on a sports car, you should really consider if keeping it stock might be more practical. Almost SCed an NSX back in day and so glad I didnt. If you dont enjoy or have time to install a Whipple, cost of paying someone else really ups the ante and stress and you are dependent on them not screwing up. Its not likely you can sue them and win and then actually collect.
And, of course, you are out of warranty if motor gets trashed from bad install.
Do you have a list of nearest shops that people from forum can confirm experience with?
Maybe find someone else nearby w a Whipple who self installed to help you with install?
A good 140k-180k mile used Accord as a backup for a couple weekends might be the way to go. Only buy from single elder owner if you can and not a curbstoner or used lot. Sell it after your are done and it likely wont depreciate.

I may actually shopping for a cheap Leaf. Figure I got a kid that is 13 and will need a car in a couple years. They are perfect. Don't have to worry about her checking the oil or maintaining much and don't have to worry about her going on road trips lol.

Another idea is watch for anyone w a Whipple that might be selling to go turbo. Possible you could get Whipple w install done by seller for a bargain.
Leaf ftw. Perfect.
