So has there been reports of a Opg failure after being upgraded without a aftermarket damper? Ive been told that a dampener is not required but recommended so Im looking into getting one or should I be fine without one?

I haven't seen any Whipple cars lose an OPG with a stock dampener but there is a reported failure with an aftermarket dampener. I was going to install an aftermarket dampener but after seeing this failure I am going to do the OPG with stock dampener. Everyone has their own opinion on it though.

Can't go wrong with the ATI damper approved by Ford Racing in the Cobra Jet and Whipple with the 10 Rib system. Though I have not heard of failure with stock damper, but I'm sure you know of my OPG failure.

This is interesting, do we need an aftermarket dampener?

I'd say what you need is the OPG replaced, the damper is just a little extra, but not absolutely necessary unless your gonna tach out above 7500 on a regular basis.

typical answer

opg upgrade should be good, obviously you can do more with an sfi balancer like the ati or romac that mmr offers.

if i'm choosing one, i'm choosing opgs, however, our personal cars always get a balancer as well

I asked the same question when i Dropped my car off for its build. Answer... Jpc's 7.27 1/4 mile car still uses the stock balancer.

That's highly unlikely as you would need a SFI approved balancer at those speeds.
