If you have not tried calling i would do that over email. I am sure they will take care of it. I installed mine a year ago and while a couple steps were not exact as the parts, everything fit as expected. I assume you got a powder coated unit?

Whipple does constantly revise their kits and update, sometimes instructions don't always keep up right away, i know dustin and the guys try real hard, but sometimes it does take a minute to keep up with revisions.

Its the stage 2 kit, I think maybe only the stage 1 is compliant. Don’t quote me on that, though!

The inside of the blower is gorgeous and I’m sure it will perform well, I am just very meticulous and those chips will bother me for ever… I will touch them up of course (hopefully whipple at least provides the right color to me) but it’s still going to bother me. I reached out to a few others; none of which had issues with the finish chipping like this.
stg2 complete kit is carb cert as well

A minute? The current manual is 11 months old. My kit was built in June and it had quite a few revisions at that point, so the current manual is at least 8 months out of date. Don't get me wrong, I love my Whipple kit, but they did waste quite a bit of my time with an install manual that didn't match the kit I received.

Update:

Got the car all together and it runs great as expected.

The guys at whipple have provided with me the color code for the powder so I can touch it up on my end, but no money back or anything was offered or will be given.

I ended up with a small leak on the driver side fuel rail where the sensor is, so I am currently waiting on a warranty rail from whipple and a sensor from ford. Whipple was very quick to help out with the rail issue, so I give them them a thumbs up here!

All in all I do wish the unit wasn’t chipping and the hoses were proper length, but I’m extremely satisfied with the performance of the blower and whipples responsiveness to the fuel rail issue.

Glad it's good to go. Did you end up trimming any hoses.

Yes I had to trim 3 in total, but no leaks or anything concerning has popped up so it all should be good. I had a few others reach out that installed kits lately who said they had to trim as well.

I’m thinking that top Hose length is for the older, smaller fill tank and needs to be revised to fit the newer tank.

I have been a Whipple customer for years. Quality of their kits is top notch. No complaints here.

Have not had a Whipple kit since way back in 2007 (great kit back then) but I have to ask, how is it these hose lengths are not better cut?? Is it the kits that are changing so often they just end up ball parking the hose lengths? As for the other quality issues (powder coating, burrs, etc) that is jump complete BS especially when you look at the $$ involved.

The hose length issue may be because of supply issues. There was a few parts like clips that had a piece of paper saying they were different now because of covid, and a few things that have changed like the reservoir. The main issue I had was having to trim a hose with a angles built into it, and by the time it was said and done the angles are sitting on top of the nipples where the clamp goes. There are no leaks with the cooling system this far; so it should be fine.

Anyone in the future with chipping issues, the powder is Axalta Mini Tex hfb605t3. The only other option I was given to remedy the coating issue was to remove the blower and ship it back, which is not happening.

I'm curious of some situations are handled by the email receiver and others pertaining to troubleshooting or possible warranty issues are pushed/escalated to someone else, possibly causing a delay in response.

It's been my experience with Whipple, that calling them gets things done quickly. I had an issue with a few parts missing from my kit. One phone call and they sent the parts overnight that day. I've never used email with problems. Person to person contact has been good for me.

The length of hose does change for example I notice your coolant reservoir is updated/larger than mine (picture attached). That would explain why the length was too long. Honestly that's a 2 second fix with a razor knife. Routing your hoses and making it look nice I would always hope they made them a little longer so you can cut to fit for your own car or the way you want to route things. My kit was ordered a few years ago and it was flawless. I do agree the instructions are more like a general guide and not a step by step type of thing. If someone needs step by step instructions they probably shouldn't be installing a blower themselves. That doesn't say i didn't hit a few snags. My kit had a few discrepancies in the manual like a few things missing or out of order but if you know how to mechanic all is well in the end. That does suck about the powder coating. I've sat on mine when I did the header install it still looks as pristine as when it was installed all those years ago. Like you said they do and will respond and have excellent customer service. They helped me out recently with some data logs and diagnosed some bad cats for me even though they didn't have to or even was related to them. great company. I've always had good experience with them over email and I've never had to call them to get a reply.

I hope they at least updated the manual after my install I sent them an email about some updates and modifications that needed to be changed (much more detailed than below) maybe they didn't. To be fair Whipple doesn't have time to babysit and teach people how to mechanic:

Step 45: 4 connectors on top of the block that need to be taped up. except one that goes to IMRC (step 101) My manual didn't address this
Step 55: Sheathing can be installed without cutting it. also step isn't necessary
Step 57: Molded tube picture. They sent cut to length tube not a big deal
Step 60: Water neck vent line routing isn't the best, I routed it how I like it
Step 79: map Block off already installed> Redundant step
Step 82: A little vague but I figured it out
Step 84: Tells you to install SC housing before Fuel rails... cant do that so I did my own way
Step 97: Fuel rail install while on block=clearance issue did it in the order that worked
Step 104: Internal bypass... different on gen5
step 114: not listed previously in manual

The install was fairly easy. No complaints there. The OPG and cam gears were more of a task than the blower!

My gripe was more or less that the companies I’ve worked with before (IROZ, STM, AMS, ETS to name a few) have never sent me anything that had these little snags all over the place, especially at the price this kit cost. Fit and finish is usually perfect

The car runs great!

Yeah, I skipped the OPG/Crank wasn't going for big numbers and I don't track the car (Stage 1 Kit). Figured if it blows I'll build it to make big boy power at that point. Yeah you might be the lucky 1 out of 1000 that got shafted or QC has gone downhill since Ive got my kit. I've done the cheaper kits/parts before and got what I paid for, that wasn't the case with my Whipple kit. It was glorious. I have noticed everyone has been affected by the covid/supply chain issues staffing shortages but you'd expect a company like Whipple not to fall victim to QC issues as they manufacture almost all of their stuff in house. Wonder if they sub out the powder coating or do it in house. Regardless i'd be pissed if mine showed up like that.
