No, the base or tech pack cars will still be more capable than the driver in 99 out of 100 cases if they were to see the track

Neophyte here. Bucket list item would be to take this to a track. What's the process? Each track prob different but do most have public days? Times for different drivers of different ability (wouldn't want to tick somebody off)? Best or required to take a professional instructor a few laps? Need to belong to a club? Cost? Web resource (some out there but leave a lot of questions unanswered)?

There are lots of high-performance driving opportunities around the country for drivers of all experience levels. Check the websites of the tracks for info on the events they have at their locations. Also take a look at the Track Guys site at www.trackguys.com. The guy who started it has been a Mustang guy for many years, has done testing for Ford and aftermarket parts companies, writes for the Mustang magazines and won the Cannonball cross-country race a few years ago.

I will be going to:

Laguna Seca
Thunderhill
Sears Point

I've only been to Sears Point once, but it was a very fun track.

I would also like to take it to Spring Mountain for a private lesson (did the three day course last year with the C7's - was awesome). All the Vette owners were giving me sh!t when I mentioned that I wanted to get a GT350 (which was known only by the spy photos at that time). But it was good natured sh!t.

Wouldn't mid getting the car to Button Willow or Willow Springs as well.

Here's a good website for figuring what events are in your area.

http://www.motorsportreg.com/

You can then check out the groups that are putting on the even to see if they cater to your experience level (some are more geared to beginners, while others may be more geared toward those with experience...of course most offer run groups of all skill levels).

Hooked on Driving is a very good group that has excellent training and instructors (in general) and does events all over the country. They are pretty formal, but are very good for people just starting out IIRC. It's been a while since I've done one of their events.

No need. I have had my non PP regular GT at the track and it was fine. I'm getting the tech pack but I will be going to the track occasionally.
