I do believe it wears in over time, just like the stock did. I got my car right off the truck and it was a bitch to go into reverse at first, even grinded a little shoving it in a couple times. My MGW was very notchy for some gears initially after install and has already gotten a lot smoother better after 6 months.I absolutely love my MGW Race Spec shifter. It seems to get even better as I put more miles on it.
I believe the syncros need to wear in for how the MGW pushes things around, once that happens it's as smooth sailing as a stock MT-82 is gonna get.
