I hear a lot of engine failures in gen3?What's your mileage? What engine problems have you had?
I have a 2017 Mustang 5.0 Mileage 92,000 km, there were no problems with the engine or the car. "

This is the original post... He has one! Not sure what he is asking as he states his has not had any issues... so I guess his is pretty reliable! his question seems to be targeted towards Gen3 issues???

Hello; Such is my take. He wants to get a newer Mustang with Gen III engine.

The easiest answer is simple it's the GT350! 😁
Before folks pile on (mostly non GT350 owners) and bash the VooDoo reliability, I have over 59,000 miles on my GT350. NO ISSUES!

Worst Mustang I ever owned was a new 2003 Cobra that accumulated 8500 miles…. The Terminator.
It was 16 months old and it was in the shop 16 times for major issues.

I had a DUD!

I believe it is luck dependent, not always make/model/year for every lemon type vehicle.

I have over 79,000 miles on my 2020 GT350. Only thing that drives me nuts is the AC HP hose and the clutch sensor. No other issues.

I'm considering buying a 2021-25 Mustang, that's why I asked the question.
You only had to scroll down another 4 posts!

Relatable. Feels like the AC is made out of paper.

Lets put this in perspective, Flat rock built 800,000 S550's in all versions. A few are going to have a problem.
In the UK my local Ford dealer looks after about 12 cars and his comment was when I enquired with one of the mechanics what goes wrong was just avoid the early cars as they rust. Other than that and this his words " they don't go wrong"

Welcome to a great family of Mustang owners! Bought my 2017 GT Premium PP1 6M with 39K, one owner, very good condition
The water pump with the plastic impeller failed at about 41K replaced with Ford Performance pump from AM, WAY better deal than Ford dealer, by more than 200$!
Previously installed subframe and differential bushings to WhiteLine and Steeda upgrade
The rest of the car is all stock
Yesterday got a bugaboo in me and decided to remove completely unnecessary sound tube
Yikes! My elbow still hurts but happy to have it gone
Use Premium fuel and Mobile One synthetic
Car purrs like a kitten and growls when asked
Love having a car like this
Here you will find the most helpful and knowledgeable group of Mustang owners I could ever imagine, makes owning a car like this even more enjoyable
Good luck finding what you want

When I think about reliability, it's not the engine that comes to mind, it's everything surrounding it. Electronics, cooling, fuel delivery, suspension components, etc. An engine has never left me of the side of the road, but fuel pumps and starters have.

The S550s share pretty much the same degree or reliability IMO. It's really about luck of the draw from the factory to me.

I purchased a 2020 GT PP1 car with about 9400 miles on it. One owner prior to me. That owner had installed a Ford Racing ProCal 4 Calibration With Cold Air Intake And Throttle Body, so it wasn't quite stock, but still warrantied through Ford.
...Took it back in 800 miles later and they found it a quart low so they bore scoped the cylinders and found scarring.
That looks to me like the previous owner probably drove like a jack@$$ during the break-in period.

However it happened, I'm glad Ford stood by it and you ended up with a good engine.

Before I bought my Mustang I asked for some opinions, at the shop that works on all my cars.
I asked about Corvette quality and the manager said "It's a GM piece of 💩..." and "You should get one" in back-to-back sentences. 😆

I gave him a frame of reference and said "When I got my Evo, it was about 3 or 4 months old when I noticed the first little interior rattle. If I get a Corvette or a Mustang, and drive it like I drive my Evo, how long before it rattles?"
He said "I'd give Mustang a couple of months. If you buy a Corvette on a Monday it might rattle by Thursday." 🤭

I think it was 2019 we were having this discussion, and the guy if he knew of any issues with the Gen III Coyote having DI and 16 fuel injectors.
Nope. He was adamant that Ford had ironed-out almost all the issues anyone had in the Gen I and Gen II Coyotes, and the Gen III was the strongest yet.
He said his customer that broke a Gen III Coyote was making 700hp, naturally aspirated 😮
and broke the end of a cam. (VTEC kicked in, yo!)

It might have been another year or two before I bought my 2020 GT and I asked my mechanic,
"If I take it to NCCAR and run laps, do I need a differential cooler like the GT350?"
He said No.
So, I'm not going to overheat my diff and go into limp mode?
No, he has customers that track their Mustangs in the middle of summer and don't have any trouble.
