I have a 2020 Ford Mustang gt stock suspension and looking at Ford performance lowering 1 inch all around or the steeda Dual Rate Ultimate Handling Lowering Springs which lowers .795 .

Would like some feedback on either one. Looking for a mild drop which I will be running 20x10 285/35 and 20x11 315/35 rear. Will 1inch clear the 315?

Steeda all day. if cost was the same Steeda rocks it. I am on 285/35/19
Steeda pro struts/shocks + progressive springs. EcoBoost are a little difference stance in front due to lighter engine though. you should be a hair deeper than me.

I'd go with the Steeda springs. You won't get the same handling with the Ford offering.

Contact steedatech by PM here or (Mike D by calling Steeda) for shock and strut recommendations.

Are you tracking the car regularly? Steeda dual rate springs are pretty aggressive for a street only car. I have them, they work great on the track with FP track dampers.

I had the FP street X springs prior to this with my stock PP dampers. It was pretty potent on the track for how well it rode on the street. Of the two options you listed, it boils down to track or not. I'm not sure the dual rates offer a tangible advantage over the X or Y FP springs on the street.

^^^ Well said.

OP, if a mild drop is your main concern, and especially if you maintain stock dampers, then the Steeda minimum drop or progressive springs are a much better choice. Ford Performance offers X and Y springs at a 1” drop; the Xs work well with stock dampers, and the Ys, being more track oriented, require the FRPP Track damper kit or the like.

Thanks guys.. yeah I’m not going to track the car. Since there are no tracks here. Ford performance x or progressive is the way to go. 1inch drop or a little less is all I want. .The steeda minimum drop is 0.5 so I’m not sure if that will make a difference look wise.

Do you want progressive springs or linear? What type of a ride do you want? A grand touring or a sports car? Would you like a suspension comparable to a PP2, or GT350, or GT350R ?

My personal opinion is that the spring rates (performance) are more important than the drop (looks). Many people on these forums just consider the drop distance...

Also, the spring rates need to be matched to the damping rates (compression and rebound) of the struts and shocks. If you drop 1 inch or more you may (or may not) have to also consider bump steer and camber plates.

Spring rates can be used to compute the Ride Frequency that can be used to compare to other vehicles.

GT350 (2016-18)1949141.53
GT350 (2019+)2118571.53
GT350R2409141.63

Steeda Minimum Drop & Sport Linear (These are the closest I find to the PP2...)
Front/Rear 200/800 with Average Ride Frequency = 1.50

I have the steeda .5" drop springs and I like them. It's just enough to reduce the fender/wheel gap a bit, without having to worry too much about curbs, parking space stops and speed bumps.

Something to consider if you decide to go with those tire sizes which is called a staggered setup. The rear tire will be 0.5in larger in diameter. It will by nature, reduce the wheel gap to the fender by 0.25in. So, think about what the end result is going to be with the tires and springs with 1" drop all the way around. Your rear tires filling more of the wheel well will give the illusion of sitting lower in back. The advantage is the car will be sitting more level as staggered wheels will add some forward rake to the stance. Springs such as BMR's SP763 drop the front 7/8" and the rear 1/2". Combine these with the staggered wheel setup and you will have a much more even looking gap between front and rear. But consider that you will have a little more forward rake with those. Spring rates are 170 front, and 740 rear, so they will play nice with the OEM dampers. This is likely adequate for a daily driver. If in the future you want better handling, the SP763 springs are going work even better with a set of Ford Perf Track dampers all around.

Great info. I was thinking in going with the FP X but I dont want to also buy bump steer and camber plates. I think I will go with the Steeda minimum drop.

Is the Ford Performance x spring is exactly 1inch all around or slightly less?
