I think that is a false rumor going around the Internet because everywhere I go, most guys that have shorts on have cargo shorts on. I'll never stop wearing them. Like you I always carry stuff in my pockets.
I'm bucking the trend, cause I only own cargo shorts! function>form......:eyebulge:

i usually take the physical key out when i get my car serviced or washed, just in case they somehow lock the fob in the car. ive seen posts about that happening, even though it shouldnt be possible.
Step 1: Place key inside car.
Step 2: Exit car and touch door handle on top (ribs)
Step 3: ???
Step 5: Hope you got the physical key or the other fob.

Mine stay in my pocket because I never actually need to touch them. Also, I'm paranoid about locking them in the car.
This. I still use the FOB to lock my doors rather than the touch shit on the door handle. I've locked my keys in my car one too many times in past vehicles.

I guess my whole point of the thread is, I like keeping all my keys together, that way no matter where I go, I don't end up forgetting one. I actually have a copy of all my keys on each vehicle's key rings. So when I am leaving my house, I grab the key to the vehicle I'm taking, and I automatically have all my keys with me. In the ones that have ignition switches, I unclip my keys from my belt loop, insert them into the ignition switch and that is where they stay until it is time to exit the vehicle. No getting stabs in my body from keys still clipped to my pants, no holes getting poked in the seat, cup holders are free, as are all other storage compartments. I also prefer to have almost nothing in my pockets while driving, it is far more comfortable that way. On longer drives I remove my phone and wallet from my pants and put them in the center console.

The ignition switch is just a convenient location for them as well, close to the wheel so when I'm done I just reach down and grab them out. Don't have to open a compartment, or look around trying to find where they flew after some spirited driving.

Why couldn't Ford have put a hook or some kind of retainer in the column? If I can find some cheap column surrounds and dash pieces I might try my hand at plastic molding/welding and see what I can come up with. Maybe try to weld one of the clothing hooks to it and hang the keys from that.

I do remember some vehicle made recently (can't remember what) had you put the fob into the column and turn it like a normal ignition switch. I thought that was kinda dumb, kinda defeated the purpose of not having a key. But the idea of a retainer in the column for it was the part about it I liked.

Car keys in the 1st coffee cup, as i always do as I did with the S197 is press the lock key twice when i get out of the car, I cant forget them

I'm not sure what kind of skinny jeans some of you guys are wearing, but I keep all of my keys, and the fob, on one keyring, and I keep it in my front pocket of whatever I'm wearing that day. Ive got 3 house keys, a couple of master lock keys, po box key, mail box key, truck bed cover key, truck key, hitch lock key, gym access tag and fob on the keyring, and it all fits in my pocket without any discomfort. My suggestion is to wear pants that fit.

I do wear pants that fit, hence the bulk in my pocket causing discomfort. I don't wear skinny jeans by any means. I hate that look. Hurts the "boys" too, if you catch my drift... I'm about 5' 10", 170-175 lbs, and wear 32x34 wrangler relaxed boot cut jeans. Maybe you wear pants that are too big? You aren't one of those people that wears your pants half way down your ass are you? That key setup you have would be VERY uncomfortable.

I put mine in my cup holder.
This ^

When I take the wife's Explorer with push button start, I used to leave them in my pocket, but if I exited the car while it was running it kept honking at me. So I just toss them in the cup holder.

Not at all. I'm 6'1" 225 and wear 36x32 pants. I don't do the tight pants, but they definitely don't hang off my ass. They're comfortable, and I honestly don't even feel the keys in my pocket. Of course, I don't wear wranglers or boots, so that particular cut could be the issue. I wear relaxed fit, straight fit or loose fit depending on which brand.

i'm old school (or just old). i need to see keys or a key fob. just to make matters worse the vehicle i use at work is old and uses a key so between the two i keep catching myself either looking for a start button that isn't there or no key for the ignition lol.

so i just keep it in the cupholder. damn thing can't hold anything anyways because i drive a manual so i end up soaking my elbow in coffee... curse you ford.

i also try to make it a habit to use the key fob to lock the car instead of the door handle so that i know i didn't leave it behind in the car.
