Can anyone recommend a good plastic wall socket as not to scratch the wheels?

They are all over, any auto parts store will have them, Amazon has a ton to chose from, etc etc. Just make sure you get the right size, couple different size lug nuts depending on stock or aftermarket rims

When I bought a mcgard wheel installation kit for my explorer ST turns out the new lugs required a 22 mm socket, so I had to buy a special socket for them. Make sure you get the right size for the lugs you are using. The stockers are 21 mm until they swell up.

I picked up set of sockets from Harbor Freight, all covered with plastic liner for use with my impact wrench. No problems so far with them.
And it was handy having the different sizes available since my race wheels have a different size lug nut compared to my street wheels. And then when the stock two piece started to swell I had a size up to use until I got home and bought replacement one piece lug nuts to replace all of them before they all started to swell too much.

Electrical tape on a six point impact socket. I haven't seen singles for sale but haven't looked all that much either.

Amazon sells single sockets in any size you can imagine.

I bought one for my 01 from Pegasus racing years ago. Couldn’t remember the name until now. 21mm socket from Pegasus Auto racing, wasn’t cheap but the one I had for the BULLITT was a good one

Using a 21mm will encourage them to 'swell' quicker ... :frown:

13/16" is the right size, it's defo not 'equivalent' to 21mm :like:

it doesn't really matter, I replaced them with mcgard nuts anyway. The stockers are in a box on the shelf in the garage.

I ran into the 22 mm issue when I put them on my explorer, so I found a set of mcgards in 21 mm for my mach 1. I didn't want to carry a special size socket with me at all times. I can dig up the mcgard part # if your interested.

The mcgard # for the 21 mm bulge style 14x1.5 in chrome is 64023. they were 21 dollars for a 4 pack on Amazon. They also have them in black, but the # is different.

go straight to the mcgard site, they have a search tool that let's you search by thread size, or color, or socket size, etc. get the # for the one you want and look on Amazon, just type in mcgard (your #) in the search bar.
