i have 265/35R20's.
would i benefit by going down to an 18 inch wheel and 50 series?
i think the ride should be less harsh and a bit of less rotational mass, but what else?

What tire size are you aiming for (on the 18"s?) 265/50/R18 would be too tall, I think (28.4"). I doubt that would fit.

If you want to stay close to the tire height/diameter where you are now, you'd need something like 265/45/R18, or 245/50/R18. Either one would give you a somewhat softer ride, but probably at the expense of some handling sharpness.

You can do 275/40r19 all the way around if you want more sidewall. Can put them on 19x9.5 or 19x10 wheels

My 2019 GT convertible came OEM with 235/50/18 on each corner. I don't aim for potholes, but I don't fear them either.

Any issues with say for example a 50 series in the rear and a 40 or 45 in the front or vis versa?

Do I want the widest in the rear? That's my take for more contact surface.

The 255/45R18 fit better than the 265/45R18 and they are a bunch cheaper too.

I don't run a square set up but I do run 18's lowered on Eibach Pro springs. 255/45/18 in the front on a 9" wheel and 295/45/18 on a 10" wheel.

I just did the wheel down sizing from 265/35R20 to 235/50R18 with a tire rack package. Only had them on the car for two days and about a hundred miles. Smoother ride, definitely not bone jarring like on the 20s. Continental Dws 06 sport? Rubber. Will report in a few weeks on ride impressions and a few pics. Tire pressure is a big factor and I did notice 7 psi increase on my 45 min commute with the 20s

i am researching wheels and tires. i want to make it as easy as possible. did you have to get any spacers and what is your offset numbers?

i'm thinking michelin pilot sport 4s or the continental extreme contact

No spacers, tires are 255/45/18 in front and 295/45/18 rear. Offset is 22mm in front on 9" wheels and 42mm in rear on 10" wheels. This setup is 100% flush.

I’ve driven them about 750 miles now and I’m very pleased with the outcome.

The 235/50R18 was the right choice for me. The harsh ride has been mitigated to any acceptable level. I’m a suburban daily driver more focused on smooth ride on the highway and country road (with the top down) rather than track focus.

Ride is softer and it still feels very much like a sports car. I'm glad I didnt go with the 19 inch wheels, I think the difference might not have been noticeable . The 19 inch wheels also came with more expensive tires. the Conti's were only $193 compared to some $245+ for 19s. I got a TIRERACK wheel and tire package that came in +$200 for just tires on my 2017 Edge.

I don’t think I lost anything moving from 265s to 235s. Tire air pressure is important; 29 psi at 6am at 50 degrees and they warm up to 33psi after 45 min commute to work. Ride quality is much better than with the 20s I started with....

See the before and after.... New wheel only came in dark silver (I cheaped out cuz I wasnt sure about this)... But it works...

Hope this helps

good to know...thanks

how's the ride?
35's are kinda harsh
i'm looking for a less harsh ride, but most of all looking at weight reduction at each corner.
tires weighing in at 27 for the fronts and 30 for the rears for your sizes.

I am lowered on Eibach Pro springs and the ride is better than when it was stock height and the stock 19's. When it was lowered with the 19's the ride was a lil harsher than stock but not terrible. I was going for the "drag race" look, and this setup filled that bill perfectly I think. I wasn't worried about the weight because this is the look I wanted.
