Hi from the UK, so following on from ththis thread where I was told the front brakes are warped, FOrd tell me today the nearside rear wheel bearing is toast.

https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/gt-front-disk-brakes-size.123074/page-2#post-2567360

My question is: is the rear wheel bearing part of the hub assembly? Ford say they are going to replace my wheel bearing today under warranty but read the nut on the assembly can actually be loose. If its all one part I will just let them get on with it as a new one won't do any harm. Car is a Oct 16 S550 GT with 7000 miles on her. Ownded for a month and I love it!!!!

Earlier thread:

Well the car is with Furrows Ford in Oswestry today for the brake disc inspection. They have rang to say its the nearside wheel bearing that is causing the vibration and will be replaced under warranty. I explained I have videos from Kwikfit showing the front discs having variations in thickness and when they tested the rears it was perfect so I dont quite beleive it yet. I guess this is being done for free so once done they can check to see if the vibration on braking is cured or not. They are waiting for Ford to come back to say whether they can get hold of a wheel bearing for tomorrow. If not I will have to pick the car up and take back ne

It’s a known issue with the S550 hub bearings failing prematurely. Some Members have noted failure with 3,000mi or less, others have noted failures within the 12-20k range.

Some have said the failure rate is higher for a Performance Pack equipped S550 - but there’s really no factual data anywhere to back up those claims.

One member on here stated in a thread he had his hub bearings replaced 3x under warranty.

The Ford replacement is a crap shoot - it may last longer than the original, it may also fail. Unless Ford has changed the supplier or the design has been updated, the parts being pulled will be the same as used at the assembly line.

Members who have done the hub replacement on their own have had good luck with MOOG or TIMKEN replacement hubs.

To answer your question regarding the hub assembly - it’s a sealed unit. So it’s the hub/bearing all in one. After the wheel, brake calipers and brake rotors are removed, the hub bearing comes off as a single unit.

As for the rear axle nuts - that is another known problematic issue with members finding loose axle nuts. There is this thread you want to review:

Here’s a few threads of reference for the hub bearing failures - there’s actually quite a few threads like yours and the below on this site.

Yes, it's a hub assembly. 2016s seem to have gotten bad batches of them, especially the PP1 cars. It's not big deal, just let them fix it.

I've had it done, to both rear wheel bearings. And FYI, the other rear-wheel-bearing will probably need replacement soon.

very common with main dealers, always get them when it goes in for a service, they show you under the car and all the major components as well as tread depths on tyres.

That's good service there. Here you'd be lucky if some dealers let you walk out into the shop to look at your own car

On my only dealer trip, they decided to drain the diff and trans for a complaint of clunk in the drive train that sounded to me like a sloppy u-joint. So there went my BG fluids. What they replaced them with I'll never know for sure because they didn't even mention in the paperwork that any fluid was put in.

I like the UK methods better.

Ouch. Sounds about right though.

I wanted them to but BG into my new trans and they said no.
