I went to Kwik Fit to get a hunter wheel alignment today and they asked if it was for a normal alignment or a Ford Track alignment and asked what type my car needed because he had no way of finding out what my car needs. Was he talking rubbish or is there a certain type my car will need? I have a 2016 Mustang GT by the way if that helps or makes a difference.

Is it stock ?

Some garages have to look up the car under US, Ford, Mustang on their system as the Mustang doesn't show up under Ford.

Yes the car is stock so what does that mean then what option should they have chosen at Kwik fit?

No idea, never been to Kwik Fit in the Mustang but if they don't know what they're doing you might want to try elsewhere.

His question was which one you want basically. The can choose either (it's probably showing both in their software) but you have to pick the one you want. You won't see a difference between them on the street (practically speaking) so no reason to overthink it.

No he basically refused to do it he said unless you know what setting I should pick I’m not going to do it because I don’t want to mess up the car is basically what he said to me but if what you’re saying about not noticing a difference on the street then at least if the other garage I’m booked in with asks the question I can just pick 1

At least he was honest. Just stick to the stock settings, you're only checking whether your tracking is out any way. Print off the settings I posted and tell them that's what you want.

Should you use the same settings for the 20 inch wheels? My car feels like it's on god damn wonky rails. So much weird side-to-side movement. Might go back to stock 19s if realignment doesn't sort it.

There has to be something else amiss, there are loads of stangs running around on 20’s and I can’t see people putting up with those issues :frown:

If they were gloss black, I might be encouraging you to take them off and sell them cheap … :giggle:

Hope you get it sorted :like:

Alignment doesn't care what size wheels you have - it's the suspension geometry, some do it on a hub stands, without wheels at all.

Take a look a toe and how even they are between left and right wheels on both front and back. And make sure your tires are inflated properly, sidewall flex on underinflated tire may give you that feeling.

Who would be the best place to look at the geometry and know what they're doing? :) I'm based in the South.

If you'd go as far as Thatcham, I highly recommend Fergies. They are a German car specialist but it's where I go for my alignment. Customer service is top notch and these guys know their stuff - they were helping me troubleshoot my suspension issues last year, very enthusiastic and capable staff.
