Just wondering if anyone has been curious enough to cut open a 2018 non-active GT muffler to see what the construction inside is like? Straight through, baffled, holes for resonator effect, etc.

You might be baffled by the answer.

On a serious note I think they a stellar for stock mufflers. I have the stock mid and mufflers still with Catless LT's and it sounds good.. so good that im gonna cut the stock mufflers into their own axle back incase these corsa sports are to fucking gnarly lol

I agree, one of the first things I noticed at the test drive at the dealer was how good it sounded for a factory exhaust...

Actually seeing those pics was what made me wonder about the 2018's. The resonator looks pretty much the same but the outside of the muffler is a lot different shape.

You can look down the inside tip of an active mufflers and see straight through into the bend, it's actually a stellar design!

Hmm I'll have to check that out on mine (non-active).

Agreed. I liked how mine sounded with just the H before I switched to Borla.

Ford did well on the stock mufflers and putting the PS4S. Both were the best they’ve done on stock Mustangs in their history IMO

I don't know for sure, but most likely there's baffling in there. Straight through mufflers are pretty loud. I do agree Ford nailed it for a stock exhaust sound.

So I bought an inspection scope and looked into each tip. Both tips have a short portion of straight pipe with resonator holes that ends at the back wall of the muffler. The muffler inlet appears to be an internal pipe with large holes that is not in line with either tip, so the exhaust gas has to enter the muffler and be diffused to either side for exit. Definitely not a straight through design.

it would be good if the aftermarket offered a similar chambered muffler for the 15-17. I don't know that I want a straight through muffler.

I’m just switching up my stock non active axle back to a super 44 two chamber to change the tone. Not looking for much if any more volume overall. The stock mufflers are a little too tinny sounding to me, but I do not want the bullet style (Roush, magnaflow, corsa). Had the offroad X with straight through bullets on my 14. Tired of the blatty x pipe sound under throttle myself. Friend has s550 with h resonator and Roush axle back = garbage sound to me.

Not sure what's inside my 2019 stock mufflers but I can tell you they are now inside of the Loudoun County landfill. I will admit they sounded good for a stock Mustang when I first started the car up at the dealership. I kept them on for about a week or so while I chose something else to replace them with.
