Sound advice... get what you can afford, and that includes insurance as well as car payments. I had a friend that got his first real job and proceeded to buy more car than he could afford... all he ever did was wash and wax the car because he didn't have the money for gas :frusty:

If OP is a young guy, he might be better off getting a Regular Cab Short Bed F150, V6. With a little luck he could get one of those for the same price as a Mustang V6. And he won't have the Mustang V8 hanging over him, and people asking him, "cool car, is that the 5.0 ! "

I'm young but will never consider a pickup truck.

Check out and test drive the Chevy Camaro for comparison. That will seal the deal for you on the Mustang turbo.

In my opinion how others have said do not test drive the 5.0 if you dont plan on buying one. Aside from the crap ive seen people get about non v8 mustangs you are going to be really disappointed with the EB or v6 if you drive the 5.0 first

The V8 is expensive because not only does it imbibe gasoline with cheerful greediness, but its atavistic, hypnotic thrum goads me to make up excuses, invent errands and "forget" items on grocery lists making repeat trips imperative. And I haven't even put aftermarket mufflers on.

@Marino We also happen to have a '12 Platinum 3.5 eco in the family and have tested this theory and I walk it every time. The turbo lag on those is laughable and I'm 5 cars ahead before he gets going. Like I said though once I hit the speed limiter he passes me but the Raptor pulls all the way to that point. Yes a tuned eco would be a different story but my Raptor tuned would turn the tables once again. Getting rid of the speed limiter and upping the power a bit opens it right up. I know someone with a 2.7 we'll have to try that one out as well. From what he said about it though I highly doubt the outcome would be any different. It's like any other 4T it looses steam pretty quick. It's more for towing just like the 3.5 The 3.5 I had would tow a lot as well but towing the same 3500lb dump trailer with the same load of 10yds of mulch behind both trucks the Raptor tows it much much better. With the 3.5 yes it will tow it but boy do you know it's back there! The Raptor pulls it smoother and you don't feel it near as much. But the Raptor just like an eco vs GT is a lot more expensive so you'd expect it.

The 6.2 MPG is WAY worse than any of the Eco's but that's not the reason I got rid of my Eco. I don't care about the MPG's I just want the power. You pay to play. Best I've ever got from mine or my wife's Raptor is 13.8 babying it on the interstate on a trip. Mine sits around 9.5 around here.
Supercharged Raptor

Full bolt-ons Ecoboost

The turbo lag actually isn't that bad for a turbo engine. Like any turbo vehicle, boost needs to be built before the launch. The Raptor is not even in the same league when it comes to a drag race with the 3.5 Ecoboost. With only bolt-ons the Ecoboost runs a 12.80 at 105 in the quarter. It gets worse when you go up against the new aluminum F-150 Ecoboost. It's all about power to weight.

2015 F-150 3.5 Ecoboost (tune only).

The V8 uses no more gas than the V6 when coasting. I just coast wherever I go!

I have test drove the eco. I need to test drive the 5.0. Im getting a 5.0 regardlrss as i have it in my truck and love it. I know it has much more power in he car so im excited. The eco was nice but its a muscle car. I have a 2.7eco F150 and its great too. But Mustang = V8 IMHO!

I've been going back and forth on the two as well. Currently I have a 13 V6. It's got some mods mostly the Borla ATAKs and Airraid CAI. I really want a 15+. Definitely wouldn't get a six again. Nothing wrong with it and it's a lot of fun but the other two have a lot more potential. At first I was only thinking a GT or bust but I've been reading lots of reviews and posts about the EB and now I'm starting to lean that way. Saving $7-8k is huge. I really want the premium too. Kind of torn. I obviously don't need 400+hp. Mostly just want the V8 sound. The better gas mileage is a plus too.
