What is up with my engine??

I decided to give this thing one last chance before I write it off and just trade it in early. Something is up with my engine, though ford service claims they can't find anything out of the ordinary. I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone has any ideas that I could present to them.

So two things are going on. First thing is, I can't drive in the default mode; I have to drive in Sport, which gets old because of all the DRM around town. If I try to use Normal mode while in drive, the thing lugs what feels like 500 rpm too low; imagine what a manual transmission feels like when it's in the top gear but trying to go uphill. I had an ecoboost loaner and it didn't do this, so that makes me feel something's up with mine.

Secondly, I have an ecu tune but I can't use it. When I first loaded it, it worked great and seemed like a good investment. But then suddenly, it started drinking gas and the engine started to idle rough, then developed a light misfire at idle, then-the part that made me remove it-the whole engine started to shake/stall/surge under acceleration, like merging/passing. I thought maybe it was bad gas, so I went back to stock, and it was a night and day difference. And you know it's bad when the crappy stock tune feels better....

I tried working with the tuner but he is generally hard to talk to and had an accusatory tone that rubbed me the wrong way. I did nothing to this thing other than add gas and drive it, so nothing changed on my end.

So, any ideas/suggestions/feedback? Thanks in advance....

Find a different dealership that has more capability of working with you .
With out any codes to atleast guide us or a tech there are to many possibilities to consider ..

What tuning device are you using? And who's the tuner?

Think back to the changes you made since it last ran good. Disconnecting your battery can clear some issues. Check for loose hoses, plugs, wires, etc.

That's just it, I haven't done anything. But that's a good tip, I will disconnect the battery tonight. That always helped my Genesis run much smoother.

I would pull the spark plugs and check the gaps. Or like I said in the other post swap them out with NGK 6510

First, as a 10 year Hyundai tech, I've never heard anyone experiencing their Genesis running better after disconnecting the battery, funny. Don't give up on the Ecoboost, when running right, it's better than the Genesis in all ways. I'm also curious who your tune was from. From the drivability issues you described, I'm suprised there aren't any stored DTCs. Did the dealer say they couldn't duplicate your concern, or tell you it's operating as designed?

Trust me, disconnecting the battery helped tremendously on my GC and improved mileage as well. And, maybe it's just mine, but the EB in my opinion doesn't hold a candle to my Genesis, but that's another topic.

As for the tuner, he's on here so I won't mention any names; heaven forbid anything negative be said about him or his tune. And the last dealer supposedly ran a host of tests, from compreession to an ecu scan but claimed it's running in "normal parameters". I personally don't think they did anything, besides drive it 46 miles and blow a quarter tank of gas.

Disconnecting the battery just resets your adaptive values. I think you should mention your tuner to get some involvement and give him a chance to show he's willing to stick with you to see your issue resolved. It's not bashing, just including all variables. Good luck.

Hard to believe any of the tuners on here would give a bad tune and even if they did I'm sure they would correct it right away. I've never had a problem with the 2 different tune providers I've used from here.

Are the charge tubes connected? They have a problem of the clamps coming loose and the hoses coming off, which would cause a loss in boost.

Also, as others have suggested, pull the plugs and inspect them/replace them with NGK or Denso 1 step colder.

What type of fuel are you running? I hope it's 93.

Have you talked with your tuner about this?

When you go to the dealer do you take a service advisor or technician with you so you can show them exactly what you're experiencing? If not, you need to. If they tell you it's normal then you need to test drive another similar vehicle on the lot and show them it's not normal.

Or you could just say to hell with it and get another car.
