Hard to believe any of the tuners on here would give a bad tune and even if they did I'm sure they would correct it right away. I've never had a problem with the 2 different tune providers I've used from here.
You would think. But his tone and attitude suggested he was blaming ME, as if I somehow did something to it.

Are the charge tubes connected? They have a problem of the clamps coming loose and the hoses coming off, which would cause a loss in boost.

Also, as others have suggested, pull the plugs and inspect them/replace them with NGK or Denso 1 step colder.

What type of fuel are you running? I hope it's 93.

Have you talked with your tuner about this?

When you go to the dealer do you take a service advisor or technician with you so you can show them exactly what you're experiencing? If not, you need to. If they tell you it's normal then you need to test drive another similar vehicle on the lot and show them it's not normal.

Or you could just say to hell with it and get another car.
1. Yes, everything was (allegedly) inspected during one of the visits and reported as normal.
2. Yes, always run 93; I'm a gas snob, so only use Chevron 93.
3. Yes, talked to the tuner, got absolutely nowhere.
4. Yes, I've ridden with several techs and showed them the issue, and I've also had an EB loaner while mine was being worked on; the loaner felt much stronger and had none of the lag and hesitation that mine does, and it was running on 87.
5. Yes, I'm rapidly getting to that point; might defect over to a 16 Camaro, if it drives as well as early reviews indicate....

I would say either find a new dealer and explain all of this to them, or trade it in and let it be someone else's problem.

It is very unfortunate you are going through all of this.

Plugs would be the first place to check for the rough idle/misfiring. Far as the surging goes, that's the tuner all the way. Go with someone a bit more professional. He shouldn't be getting defensive when you're trying to have an issue solved.

I decided to give this thing one last chance before I write it off and just trade it in early. Something is up with my engine, though ford service claims they can't find anything out of the ordinary. I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone has any ideas that I could present to them.

So two things are going on. First thing is, I can't drive in the default mode; I have to drive in Sport, which gets old because of all the DRM around town. If I try to use Normal mode while in drive, the thing lugs what feels like 500 rpm too low; imagine what a manual transmission feels like when it's in the top gear but trying to go uphill. I had an ecoboost loaner and it didn't do this, so that makes me feel something's up with mine.

Secondly, I have an ecu tune but I can't use it. When I first loaded it, it worked great and seemed like a good investment. But then suddenly, it started drinking gas and the engine started to idle rough, then developed a light misfire at idle, then-the part that made me remove it-the whole engine started to shake/stall/surge under acceleration, like merging/passing. I thought maybe it was bad gas, so I went back to stock, and it was a night and day difference. And you know it's bad when the crappy stock tune feels better....

I tried working with the tuner but he is generally hard to talk to and had an accusatory tone that rubbed me the wrong way. I did nothing to this thing other than add gas and drive it, so nothing changed on my end.

So, any ideas/suggestions/feedback? Thanks in advance....
Are you saying you can't drive it in default mode even with the stock tune? And you've shown that issue to the dealer and they're not doing anything about it? Definitely find a different dealer.

Did the problems start after a new tank of gas? As you said, you might have bad gas, or lower octane than 93. Maybe the gas station screwed up and was delivering lower octane as 93. If you're close to empty, go to a different station and fill it with 93 from that station.

Have you tried any OTS tunes? If the stock tune works better than the tuner's tune, and an OTS tune works better, that's more ammo to hit the tuner with.

Good luck with this. I just finished working out a problem where I had a couple of plugs go bad - symptoms similar to yours but flashing back to the stock tune didn't solve the problem, so I doubt if your problem is a bad plug.

Spill the beans. It makes you look like you are setting up to troll someone when you are cryptic with key pieces of information...

You out the tuner and then they will have a chance to respond. That's how forums work.

Agree^

The engine is sputtering and hesitating and the dealer puts it on the scope and can't find anything?

How long after the tune, did all this go down. The OP was not very forthright with things as they happened in chronological order. Really vague.

Datalogs might help a bit here, but I'm sure you didn't think to do that when a potential issue arose...

OK, so will 5th time be the charm? Dropped her off today to have my recall done and brakes inspected before they replace them for a 3rd time. This is the 5th new service dept. I'm trying, and I carefully and slowly explained what's going on with the engine, so maybe just maybe there will be a resolution this time.

As for the tune, since so many are asking, I had the unleashed 93 performance tune. I'm sure it's an amazing product for some of you, so I won't bash or say anything other than it obviously didn't work as advertised for me.

On a sidenote, my loaner this time is a brand new Edge. Not sure which engine is in this thing but it could easily smoke my EB, meaning it's either THAT quick, or mine is just THAT slow...

Hopefully they figure something out!

I'm guessing your Edge has the new 2.7 Ecoboost V6. 325HP/350TQ or in that ballpark. It freaking screams and it's bullet proof. I work in the industry and have been in the assembly plant for that engine quite a few times, it truly is state of the art and very well built.

Which begs the question WHY(!) Isn't that engine available in the mustang?? It's simple, to me; the 4 should be base, and the 2.7 should be the upgrade.

Ah well, maybe in a few years, after they see they need a stronger v6 to challenge the 335hp camaro v6.

I agree 100%. I'd guess most likely because the 2.3 was more readily available and cost effective. 85% of 2.7 production is RWD strictly for F-150 and they can barely build enough to satisfy demand. The other 15% is FWD for Edge and Chinese Taurus.

2.7 with a tune cranks over 400HP and 450TQ, would be a monster in the Mustang.

Might be saving the bigger displacement EB when the V8s disappear and they need to make up the power gap.
