I wanted to change the rear gear oil in my car. The original factory oil is still in there.

I saw royal purple 75-140 available near me for pick up it even comes with a little spout so I won’t have to buy a pump.

Is this a good choice ? Do I have to add some addictives in there ?

Also how many quarts do I need to buy ?
Royal Purple 75-140 gear oil already has all the additives mixed in that you’d typically need, so you won’t have to worry about adding anything extra.

I use Valvoline 75w140 in the squeeze pouch. Comes with modifier. Affordable. Walmart stocks it.

The squeeze pouch makes it so easy to install.

I run 140wt even though I installed a DIY diff cooler. Track diff temp still gets up to 230F in the afternoon.

If your car is all street driving, then I'd run 90wt.

Get a marker and mark the drain plug at the 6:00 position. Back off the drain plug until it drips into an aluminum pan. Look at the sample of the oil. Same as for engine oil - if you think it's too dark then just change it out. Tighten the plug back to the 6:00 position.

I think the diff only holds 1.6 quarts. My cooler system upped that to ~2.5 quarts.

That's intense man! Was there a tutorial you followed for this? What were your temps before and after this?

No, I did a lot of research, and then designed it myself. That photo highlights the checkvalve and inline filter with the cooler. More details and photos found at My Diff Cooler Build.

@GTP Bro, great build. I love Improved Racing. They got some nice stuff. They cater too much to LS, LOL, but their hoses and fittings and stuff are legit. Sorry to get off track, but here's an axle vent system I did with mostly Improved stuff...
