What does this go to?

Got in my car and this was just sitting on the driver floor mat. I have not done any work inside of it.

Anyone know what this goes to? I couldn't find anything missing. Looks like maybe firewall insulation fastener?

Looks like something from the trunk plastic cowl behind the license plate? However with the door open I'm guessing it came from inside the cabin?

Carpet retainer. Look between the seat and the plastic scuff plate there should be 2 on each side of the car. If yours are not missing, the assembly person likely dropped it and didn't bother to pick it up. I found a few "spare" parts in my car.

Some on the line dropped it no time to look for it just grab a new one and go.

It definitely is a carpet retainer. Belongs behind the gas pedal. When you press the gas pedal, especially if you floor it, your shoe will press the carpet in the right corner. This adds a weird pull to the right and it will pop the retainer out of the bolt it is clipped on.
So, it is behind the gas pedal, slightly towards the brake, about an inch from the edge of the carpet, you can't miss the hole.

This is so strange. I found this exact same part on the drivers floor of my new Mach 1 when I got it home for the first time. I have been wondering where it went? Thanks!!
