Is the handbrake on the Mustang a part of the caliper or is it the "shoes inside the disc hub" design?
It's a cable operated actuator on the caliper according to the workshop manual (unless you have an SVT performance package then it's a "shoes inside the disc hub" design).

If I remember I shall, its a family business so I reckon they will really fight for me, end of the day if Ford agree, its the dealership who gets paid for doing the job so it is in their interest to fight to have it done.

So I shall enquire about, the air bag is a none issue, if Ford are willing to do something they will issue a recall, which when it effects the SRS systems recalls normally happen even as much as ten years after release.

E46 M3 is an example, over a year ago they go recalled for a potential drivers wheel air bag issue, so all cars built between certain dates were recalled, mine was one of them, its a 15yr old car, LOL.

I nearly took it for the recall just to laugh at BMW's response when they got the car and said but sir, someone has removed the detonator and air bag module from your wheel and are you aware there are no air bags or seat belts in your car sir and someone installed a climbing frame in the rear?

I thought best not though, they'd probably not see the funny side! :D

Not a hand brake issue, the pad was stuck on the disc which means two things:
- Caliper sliders are failing due to dirt or caliper failure
- The pads are not seated on the sliders 100%

Shall see what Ford say tomorrow.

In other news my Ferrari rubber just turned up, sticky sticky! :D

When you say "pad" do you mean only one pad was stuck to the disc? In my experience of sticky rear calipers of this type, which is s very similar design to most VW's, is the handbrake mechanism that causes the issue.
Fundamentally, it is a mechanical assembly with very little movement and adjusts itself for pad wear. If it goes mad on adjusting itself it clamps the pads onto the disc, just like it looks like yours did?
If it is only one pad, which I doubt, it'll be the sliders.
Of course, it could also be the ABS Actuator getting a signal to brake that wheel? ESP??

The SVT Performance Package does not apply to the GT Performance Pack, so that's GT350-only. I can confirm that (at least on US cars) the parking brake is a cable-actuated mechanism on the rear of the caliper.

I believe these are the exact same rear caliper I had on my 2006 GT, which is the same rear caliper my sister had on her 2003 V6, which is the same caliper I had on my 2003 Taurus and 1998 Sable. I'm sure part numbers have changed, but they're the same damn caliper.

ETA - I'd also have them look at the outer CV boot on the halfshaft, just to make sure there was no damage to that rubber part, or the grease inside.

Yes they told Ford warranty I need new disc, new pads, new caliper and fluid.

Warranty has approved!

Calipers/pads should arrive in next day or so, but brake disc are in shortage and will take two weeks, but I said are you joking and telling me there is no brake disc in stock for this car, at which point CRC have highlighted the issue.

But in short new dealership is much better and Ford CRC seemed a lot more switched on now.

well thats good news not just for you but also for the rest of us :)

having no stockpile of a consumable part is a little worrying especially a safety part

edit: did they ever work out what the cause was ?

Yes caliper piston at fault.

They said it will happen again, as such I am driving the car but I am not using my brakes or as little as possible. As heat causes expansion so giving the car a hard work out is very likely to cause the failure to show.

So far no issues with just driving around like a granny or looking ahead. :)

Brake disc is not warped but they agreed to replace them both and the brake pad partially broke up due to the heat.

This is why its not so easy for me to test these new tyres out as any quick driving I do has to be done taking into consideration that I am trying to avoid hard or long braking.
