Just looked at my rear rotors and they’re like rusted where the pads are I’m assuming meaning the brake pads are maybe backwards from when I replaced my thrust washer last week? What do yall think?

I have 1 rotor in the rear that looks similar to this one. I think it's just junk material.

Pull the wheel off, pull the pads. Inspect.

Backwards?
Hell no, if they were the metal grinding noise would be so obvious that you would know right away

That's what happens when the brake lining material wears down and it becomes metal to metal. The brake pad metal backing is what is stopping you now.

Brake pads still have plenty of life believe it or not lol. Not even close to being worn out. Definitely not the problem haha

Have you ever heard the noise than backing plate make on a rotor ?
Furthermore would be a lot of silvery metal dust/debris
So wrong diagnosis

I've seen rotors that look worse than the picture above due to worn out pads and the driver had no idea there was a problem. As a mechanic in my earlier days I seen this with my own eyes.

I also did not see the text under the big picture in the original post. For some reason I always look at the top. I guess you would have caught worn out brake pads when you had it apart.

Hello; I get this will not apply directly to a Ford. Have had a similar pattern on the rear rotors of a chevy pickup for a couple of decades. The outside pad will wear more on one place. There will be a shinny circle maybe an inch wide with a duller surface on either side. The inner surface of the rotors will be shinny all over. The pads will wear faster on the inside than the outside.

My rear calipers are the single piston floating type. I tried different things over the years. Mostly making sure pins and other places where the calipers move are clean and lubricated.
Couple of years ago I put on two new rear calipers. Both rotors look better now but one side is slowly going back to the old pattern.

I figure it is a built-in problem from the factory as i have seen other trucks the same way.
