Covering the lenses with PPF will protect the lens from physical impacts and UV rays. But I'd consider it as part of an overall project to protect areas prone to impact or exposure.

Like the lenses, the panel paint will become chipped over time, some vehicles more than others.

If the intent is to keep the car for several years and keep it well, I'd focus on all forward-facing areas, rocker panel sections and post wheel areas. PPF, chip repair, panel respray or a combination of these.

I have used them for years on many cars. I typically get a yellow film for my truck fog lights against the snow.
The material is very thick and stays put after it all dries.

I always wondered if there was a real use case for those yellow tuner-boy fog lights I see on Civic Type Rs and WRXs. My mind is a bit blown right now. Didn't think the yellow tint had a function besides being annoying. :giggle: Thank you for clearing this up for me!

yeah, serves a small group. Adds tint/shadows to bright white. Learned it skiing. Yellow lense FTW. Then people added pink, purple, and whatever. Don't think they do anything but look flashy/tuner.

If you do install WeatherTech, be aware that there are youtube videos out there that are wrong. Surprise! The side of the film that has the backing paper has adhesive and should be installed on the headlight. At least one video shows the opposite and the film is sliding all over the place because the adhesive is on the outside, not on the headlight.

Yes the WeatherTech headlight film is worth it, I have it on my 2021 S550 Mustang and the film protects the lens from debris and fading. It will come with the headlight film and the turn signal film, both are easy to install on this car because you only have a curve on the lens surface. Here you can see both the left and right headlights and turn signals with the WeatherTech film on them, the film is 3 years old now, I bought this car in April of 2022 as a left over 2021 model.

Does it stop the clouding of the lens?

I don’t know about weather techs because I’ve never used it, but I’m of the opinion everyone should have ppf on their headlights. It really prevents the haze from uv damage.

If your clouding has already started, no.

it doesn’t take long, I’ve seen it happen in the 1-3 year range. And that’s on garaged cars! These plastic POS assemblies… and expensive as hell to replace

If you do the sanding and sealing to remove the existing haze then put the film on does it help?

I doubt it once that top layer is done, but for the price of film it would be worth a try. I know in the past I’ve tried ceramic coating and waxes etc after refinishing headlights and nothing works except redoing them with 2k clear

Mine is a 2021 model year and I purchased it in April of 2022 as a left over 2021 during covid, I put the WeatherTech film on it right after I bought it and you see it still looks new in the photos so I am going to say it is working for me.

It’s the real nasty, 2 part clear coat sprays. You need to wear PPE using it. It’s basically the nearly permanent solution
