I'm an odd ball when it comes to the convertible top. This is my first true convertible, I've owned T-Tops cars prior. I usually bring the Mustang through touchless car-washes. I do this regulaly (3 times a week) to keep the car nice and shiny, and remove salt if there is any on the road.

As for the top, I would love to find a product that I can spray and brush. Are you guys saying that the Convertible Top Cleaner from Meguiars is the better one? Just buy a soft brush with it? Does it require being wet on the convertible top?

When I wash the car (only by hand at home) I soak the roof first, using a sponge and a proper car wash, rinsing thoroughly and a protector once a year.

The key is not to put the top down when it is wet or dirty.

Question: Is it a big deal to put it down wet if it is for a short period of time? I go to work before the crack of dawn and the top is often wet from overnight condensation. I've been putting it down for the drive to work and then right back up again once I get there. It's not down for more than 20 minutes at the most. Is the bigger deal that the act of lowering it when wet can do damage to the top, or more that it's terrible to leave it down when wet because it won't dry properly? (I'm one of "those people" that always wants the top down...unless it's raining or snowing.)

I vacuum the top with a soft bristle brush. Some will use a lint roller. I do not use car wash soap on the top but wet it and then pat it dry with a towel. Here's why I don't use soap. I wash and treat my top every spring with the 303 top cleaner and protect sprays. The water beads on the top so I do not need soap and their surfactants to remove the water repellent.

One more thing, I do not drive my vert in the rain, so only "dust" gets on the top, not road spray from the car in front in the rain. If you do drive it in the rain, you should use a convertible top cleaner not a car wash soap meant for paint. The roof is fabric not metal.
