Too bad about that entire project with the Marauder... they went back and forth so many times on it instead of making a commitment to continue to improve it each year. They had a nice piece of work there. I remember seeing a prototype in Dearborn in the winter before it was introduced... it sounded so nice and the driver was hammering it.

I prayed and prayed they would resurrect it with a coyote. Then the panther chassis died :(.

But to keep this topic on track more or less.

I would put money on the 5.8 fitting. However, if you asked me to bet on if it'll actually be used in the 550, ill say nay. The grapevine tells me there's a lot of cylinder head and piston work being done right now with the coyote. Not sure what for, but it coincides with this new "Cobra" "GT350" (call it what you want for now) coming soon to replace the GT500. Maybe its for the voodoo, maybe just a coyote improvement. Only time will tell. Or peabody :)

Peabody stated that 5.0 is absolute max width, and if the coyote is 26" and the trinity is 28.5" then it wont fit. Simple as that. Also s550boss, how can you possibly tell that the strut towers are the same width just by using pictures? A few mm of movement can change a lot in an engine bay. And this is not "simply" an evolution of s197, as peabody stated, it is a very very heavily modifed s197, with very few shared parts (non sheetmetal).

Taurus, RWD, with a 5.4 and a manual...

Don't even call it a Taurus, just call it a Marauder, similar to the Police Interceptor dropping the Taurus name.

I'd drive it.

Just viewing the 550 dressed in 197 drab spy pics showing the engine bay tells you it'll fit. Looks to me if the wires sitting beside the cam cover were simply moved elsewhere you could have a nice 1-2 inches there. Now assuming the other is also empty space and not occupied by a master cylinder or something else, that's all you need.

I'm no engineer, but the 5.4/5.8 will fit. A simple hood bulge would probably be needed, I'm sure none of us know exactly how spacious it'll be under there height wise.

I'd take a taurus rwd with any power plant. But since the 5.4/5.8s are dying, give me an eco boost coyote! And a real tire in back. The 245's mine came with were good for nothing but smoke.

But with Merc's death I'm sure the Marauders dead with it...

So the difference between these two motors is less than half an inch on each side.

I think it'd fit.

I'm not sure what was settled here besides the difference in engine size. None of us (well, maybe one of us but he aint talking) know the exact measurements of the final production engine bay. As you mentioned, it's only less than half an inch of a difference on each side that would cause it to not fit. That's cutting it very close and I question whether that would be perceivable by eye just by looking at spy pics.

Just measured my 5.4 (DOHC/4V) 76.2cm = 30.0"

I think this topic is settled. Thank you steve for the measurement.
Yeah, it's settled alright.
Can you show me where Steve also measured a Coyote 5.0 using the same points to measure from?
Your desire to be right about the 5.4 fitting, is leading to a certain amount of bullish attitude.
Even if it were to fit by massaging all sorts of parts, it isn't going to happen by Ford.

Interesting !!! Did you run a tape measure over them for comparison?

If so, they might just need a bit of a bonnet (hood) bulge to accomodate any extra height from the 5.8's S/C. :clap2:
No I didn't, and one car is already in storage. It was just something we commented in prior to reading this thread that the Boss heads sat closer to the shock towers. Not sure if this applies to the standard 5.0, and without actual measurement I suppose it could have just "looked" that way. His motor was notably taller though.
