I wanna create this thread to hear from people who have had problems with their warranty due to mods. Also did you manage to get around the mods and still be under warranty.

I typically don't mod my Mustang but I've monitored the various forums over the years and this issue has had a lot of discussion.

In addition to the info in this forum and experiences others post in your thread, I recommend visiting this google link. You'll see lots of good info.

Having a "mod friendly" dealership helps a lot as well. Unfortunately, a dime a dozen depending where one lives.

i had a "mod friendly" subaru dealership when i had a fully bolted on WRX. i felt pretty comfortable about them especially since the owner of the dealership is actually the owner of the shop that did my mods, as well as him being the tuner of said shop.

i did end up using my warranty at the dealership for a non powertrain related issue. it was the a/c compressor.

i dont know of any "mod friendly" ford dealerships in my area at all.

I find it hard to understand how people can proceed with mods without knowing. Maybe later on in life when my pockets are deep enough I can have that attitude, but if I install a cold air intake and my engine has a catastrophic failure, I can't afford to pay for a new engine or the costs of an attorney to fight a lengthy court battle.

If the service manager at the dealership is willing to honor my ford service plan to install the Ford Racing Performance Pack when it comes out, I'll get it. If not, I simply cannot take the risk.

And I'm not sure that if I was rolling in cash I would be willing to take the risk either. Risk vs. Reward I guess.

i never understood it either. a lot of my subie friends blew their engines up. it costs about 8k to get it up and running again, with a built block. sure after you build it, it probably wont blow again, but other issues pop up.

i'd rather have a stock car that has all the power there already, instead of a car you need to mod to get it to where you want it, and risk not having a warranty.

this is one of the main reasons i sold my subie. my warranties were up and i wasn't sure how much longer my engine would last after pushing over 100hp to the wheel more than stock for that long.

I had my trans replaced due to failed input shaft bearings making a loud whining noise(common to early 2011 MT-82's). At the time the car had a Steeda CAI, BBR tune, Magnaflow catback, FRPP lowering springs, Koni STR.T shocks, Joe Heck Racing shifter, bracket, and stainless clutch fluid line. Also they asked if I raced my car and I replied honestly(about 30 drag strip passes plus running the Texas Mile). I dropped the car off after speaking with the advisor and technician at length about the repair process, had a loaner for the entire time as well no problem. Left a box of donuts on the passenger seat for the techs to share.

Now, THAT'S how you do it. I'll have to keep the donut trick in mind for the future.

Seriously tho, that's awesome they knew of the mods and you tracking the car and still took care of the repair. Can we all get this lucky?

It was mainly the conversation I had with the advisor and tech and me letting them know that I appreciate the extra effort when they have my car in their shop. I'm a tech as well(Mercedes) and was wearing my uniform, so I guess I was just trying to be nice to my kind and hoping they would return the gesture by not scratching the paint or doing burnouts everywhere. The whole warranty part never really came up.

Ahh the weekly warranty voiding thread...can never get enough of these..

perfect mixture of anecdotes, high hopes and pessimism all in one conveniently uninformative thread

Are they mechanics or cops? I bet if you left them a case of beer, you could do what ever you want to your car!!
