I will show this in a picture to help you visualize, give me a few it may take me some time cause I'm at work but I will show you something. Just understand what I am saying is you would buy the parts needed to this exhaust setup but it wouldn't be a complete kit. You would take it down to an exhaust shop and have them weld it and install it for you.
Oh yeah cool man, thanks now I understand alot better.

Thanks alot for explaining it to me. I want to learn.

Ok I understand a little better now. I need to get the Long tube headers, the Borla Catback - leaning towards the S Type now - then a resonator - where does this resonator sit in the whole setup?

So from what Ive seen and researched the Long tubes come straight out of the engine - then connect to the x pipe - then the x pipe connects straight to the catback exhaust. Where would this resonator sit?

And again thanks so much for the information!

Stock: engine - headers - cats - pipes - resonator - pipes - muffler

My recommendation: engine - longtubes - cat delete x or h - Magnaflow Tru-X - pipes - muffler

USMCtoARMY's: engine - longtubes - cat delete x - pipes - mid mufflers - pipes - inline resonators - pipes - muffler

If you're going catless longtubes, skip getting a catback (unless it's the Borla Touring which comes with a resonator similar to the Tru-X) because you're most likely going to end up needing to replace that part of heavily work around it anyway.

Ok so I can get the borla touring, the long tube headers and then I need to find a catless x pipe - which the only thing I see on american muscle is the catted h pipe. So need to do some googling.

Those three items will complete the setup and give me no drone then? Since the Touring has a resonator? And this would all be bolt on?

I kinda wanna try to do this myself. There is a garage here in Kansas where you can rent a bay and its a professional lift and all that.

So found this:

Is this legal in my state? How do I find if it is? lol

EBay or Amazon is where you would get the parts for the most part....bit cheaper. I highly recommend you pursue an exhaust shop since this isnt a bolt up option we are talking.

Likely wouldn't bolt on and requires lots of cutting in different areas, I'd personally pay a shop to do it and weld it instead of just clamps everywhere (they can shake loose and cause false knock issues down the road, that steals power). A regular cat back would be a bolt on affair and take an hour or two.

Do you have vehicle inspections? Cat deletes aren't legal anywhere really, but if you don't have inspections, nobody is going to do anything about it. Quick search made it seem like there is only an inspection for the initial title transfer from out of state.

Are you saying I can get Longtube headers and the Borla exhaust and be fine?
I don't have any experience with longtube headers and catless setups. I am sure Nagare and USMC have great recommendations since they've done it. I'm not sure if the Borla catback would just bolt on with longtubes, but as Nagare said you could still use the Borla resonator instead of the True X. Or I suppose you could buy a True X and a Borla touring axle back (but if you did that it would be easier to start with a stock GT catback with 2.5 inch pipes.)

Neither of us actually has longtubes so we can't comment on that specifically. Also forgot to mention we can't promise there will be no drone either, Borla only tests that for the stock setup and what they provide but it would definitely be less than what he has right now.

I've been meaning to swap my stock air intake back in to see if my bit of drone is from the Roush intake or actually coming from my exhaust, but it is brief (like 2000-2200 rpm) and doesn't bother me that much.

Well from my research if I were to go the long tube header option I would need some sort of mid pipe to hook between a catback and the headers.

I picked the BBK Catted H pipe - but if it sounds terrible I kinda dont want it, plus now Im told I lose performance gains from the long pipes with the Cats in there.

I mainly want the long tube headers because I want more performance, and from what Ive researched I get the most out of long tubes. So yeah now Im wavering on what I want to do again lol!

NOW I currently don't run long-tubes, BUT I did have them on my first 3.7L Mustang so I have experience in drone/loudness/gains on them. HOWEVER, that was my 2013 BUT same engine....

Ok so I need to put money away for install then after going through this thread a few times to understand whats going on.

So the buy list would be:

BBK Long Tube Headers
BBK Short Off Road H Pipe
Borla Touring Catback
O2 Sensor Cable Extenders

Then bring all this to a shop for install, get a tuner from MPT and go?

Ask said shop to weld all this instead of just bolt on as well.

Am I getting this right or am I still just not getting it? haha

I don't believe you can use the shorty off road h with the long tubes, at least not without some fabrication (ie welding by a shop).

If the shop is well reviewed and you trust them, they could probably make something to get you between the longtubes and the catback. For my personal setup, I just had my shop cut out the cats and weld in some piping. If you're going the catless route, you'll want to get some O2 Sensor Defoulers as well. I went with the $15 ebay ones and have had to clear the CEL twice in 6 months.

You should get the tune at the same time as well, might have some issues running without it (although it will probably technically run).
