My Mustang requires a refill after each run at a high speed track. So I decided to bring along a couple of gas cans at the next event. Unfortunately, the Mustang's gas filler has an interior door that prevents me from using any of my gas cans. What are people doing to refill at the track?

Thanks,

there should be a gas filler adapter in your trunk. on my gt it was on the rear driver side of the spare wheel compartment. i would assume that for your gt350 it would be in a similar place. if you dont have one you can probably use a narrow funnel.

Yeah, I have one of those. I was hoping for a better solution. Funnel has to be exactly the right size and shape to work. I was hoping someone knew of a gas can that had a nozzle designed to fit our cars.

Thanks,

I don't recall having to use anything additional in my previous mustangs with the same design. I use VP cans and the same nozzle as before. A majority of the grey tip goes into the tank similar to pumping gas.

That's good to know. Many thanks!

How are you guys carrying the jug(s) to the track? Can you fit any in the trunk or are you guys using trailers?

I have room for a couple of cans in the trunk. But you have to choose your cans carefully. The clearance in the trunk is basically 18". Unfortunately, the VP cans (which are the best of them for our purposes) don't fit. I bought Scepter and wish that I Hadn't. The spout is so full of interlocks and safety features that the can is virtually useless IMHO. While it might be satisfactory for a chain saw, it takes close to 10 minutes to empty the 5 gallon can through the spout and you have to hold down 2 interlocks while also supporting the can throughout that process. YMMV.

So what cans did you go with that fit? I have my trunk gutted so hopefully I can fit a couple 5 gallon jugs.

I did mention in my previous post that I bought Scepter cans and wish I hadn't. However, your car is gutted so the VP cans might just fit. If they do, you are in luck. Check on-line. I think they were 22.X" in overall height.

I’ll haven’t yet found a race jug that didn’t out gas some. I carry four or five airtight canisters (the kind Home Depot sells) and bring one empty VP jug with a fill neck and a funnel, and put them all in the trunk. Still lots of room to throw a 335/13 and tools in there, and I carry the other 335/13s in the back seat.

Case in point (just loaded up for a race in San Diego this weekend):

What you can’t see are the 3 upright cans at the back against the seat, another against the wheel well, and the 335/13 in the spare tire well. Also, the can on its side is empty (for draining pump on site), as is the jug. For a total of 5 cans and 1 jug.

If there’s one thing you can do in this car, it’s haul a LOT of stuff!!

Nice, just like playing tetris. So how many gallons in total are you able to bring?
