It's going to go the same in a straight line as a regular SS, so it won't beat the Shelby any worse than normal in a drag race.

I'm wondering if it's actually going to be quicker around the track than a Z51. We already know that the GT350 is very close to the Z51. Corvette people would be so happy if the Camaro SS with a track package beats their Vette with a track package.

Doubt they'll release at same power level and same straight line numbers.

Sounds good and looks fast.
But, sounding better than the Shelby? No way.

You may be right, but the old 1LE engine and trans were the same as the SS. If they up the power level in any significant amount, it will be over the Corvette LT1 power level. I just don't know if they'll do that.

I don't think significant, prob small just to market a gain in power which wouldn't mean much or maybe same power and lighter.. The Camaro is currently throwing out slightly higher whp dyno numbers than the vette.

Back to back and same day.

I owned a 5th gen ZL1. Hugely entertaining and very fast. It wasn't nearly as organic or as full of charachter as my GT350.

I'm sure the new ZL1 will be a monster but I don't think I could imagine it being more soulful than the Shelby. Driving the GT350 fast is a religious experience and I'm rarely timing it.

The 1LE package before was suspension tuning, better wheels and tires, ?brakes maybe?, and a few other small things. It didn't have any weight reduction or anything crazy over the regular SS. The new ZL1 will probably have some more lightweighting done to counter the weight of the new drivetrain, but I'm not sure we'll see a lighter V8 Camaro than the current 1SS anytime soon.

Any way you slice it, the Camaro has a better chassis for performance. Combine that with the huge torque advantage it has, and the GT350 will have its work cut out for it. We already know the SS has a slight straight line advantage from a dig. If the 1LE comes in with a killer suspension, tire, and brake setup, it very well could leave the GT350 on the road course.

I think the Shelby has the better NA power potential though, and I always modify my cars. I'll never be good enough on a road course to push one or the other to the limit. So, I'll stick with the GT350.

Interesting, out of curiosity is that dyno graph comparing the same transmissions? If its Manual vs Automatic a 2-3% powertrain loss could explain the difference and even flip it around some.

Both manual transmissions.

Corvettes have a different drive train layout with a rear mounted transaxle. I used to think that they would be more efficient, but more recent evidence seems to indicate that the Vette drive train is actually less efficient. It makes up for that by having better weight distribution though.

I think more than that is the different exhaust set up on the SS. But you are right.

That's one dyno pull showing a 4 HP difference between two cars. I've seen bigger differences from successive dyno runs on the same car! Doesn't seem like a statistically significant sample size to say that the Camaro is putting out more power than the Vette. I'd like to see at least three or four runs from each car (maybe they did and those numbers are the averages).

As far as Camaro VS. Mustang - based on the C&D comparison to the C7, it looks like the GT350 is quite a bit slower, at least in the hands of journalists, but also more fun to drive. Will be interesting to see how a 1LE Camaro drops in. Should certainly be QUICKER than the GT350 in a straight line given that the SS is, but the GT350 is a couple MPH faster, so maybe on a road course the GT350 has a slight edge. In terms of handling it would seem that the 1LE would have the MR shocks, bigger tires, bigger brakes, more cooling and all that than the SS. I bet much of the improvement will be in terms of lapping consistency (no over heating, no brake fade). I doubt it will be quite as fast as a Z51 Vette, but probably a little closer than the GT350 is. It does sound like the SS is a bit easier to drive at the limit than the GT350, so that might be all it takes to pull ahead.

The ZL1 will be quite a bit faster than the GT350 due to all the added power. Ford will need a GT500 to compete directly with it.

For me, the 1LE or GT350 is the way to go. I find the LT1 engine a bit underwhelming at high RPM, so for me, the GT350 is the winner in the excitement category. Plus it looks much better!

I think both will be excellent to drive.

That pretty much sums up my thoughts. I pick the GT350 because it's more interesting to me, but they are both very good cars.

Even if the 1LE is as quick as a non-R GT350, it's not as special. GM doesn't have anything up their sleeves as exciting or special as the Voodoo. You know you've made a great car when a lot of people could care less about the numbers and prefer it because of how it makes them feel.

Ehhh I think the 1LE is more appropriate competition for the GT350. Both are NA and track focused. Not to mention the 1LE will probably come in around $50k with the added track-capable hardware. Let the GT500 replacement take care of the ZL1 (which will likely come in around $65k).

Here's the 1LE running the 'Ring.
1LE is a package, not a trim level.

Looks very fast. Sounds very boring. There's just not a car out there that I would've spent $60K on until the GT350. I don't care if it's the fastest, it's still the coolest IMO.

ZL1 or whatever will have the LT4. Blah.
the zl1 if supercharged will not be in the same class as the GT350.the next GT500 will kill off the new zl1.plus the lt4 motor will probably blow up or over heat anyway.
