Just took a photo of the underside of my Fiesta, this is how i'm expecting the Mustang to be, if not then they'll need to do it properly, no point in a few years moaning it's started to rust and regretting not sorting it on the pick up day.

twiggy I'm going to, well, not refuse, I'm going to tell them i'll take the car if they fix XYZ, assuming there's any issues, my dealers aware of this, which is why she's asked me to check over the car BEFORE picking it up. You can always refuse the car before the handover anyway, if you see something you don't like, you can ask them to fix it before pickup.

Anything that can be pulled up under warranty, you can refuse the car for, before pickup, and ask them to fix it, 'under warranty' that's the whole point of it (IIRC)

Jimboy2 It'll be on the ramps if I have my own way, Ford have their own garage attached to the dealership, so should be able to get it up there, as it'll already be in there for the inspection and not on the forecourt. Should have been cleaned and what not before I even see it. Thinking about bringing our resident pedant in the office (who surprisingly is far worse than me...) to look over the car with me and check for issues as he's incredibly finicky.

I really don't want to refuse the car as it's something I've always wanted, it's been a very long wait and i'm so looking forward to it now it's almost on UK soil, but I will pull out of the deal (even willing to lose the £1'000 deposit) if they don't sort it out.

Mine is ON Uk soil, i'll have a look for you at what it looks like, try and get a view under the exhaust. Should give you a good interpretation of what it'll look like for yours and if ford have done anything to get it back on track.

If it's bad, i'll ask my dealer about it being redone, I have a feeling it's not ford who do it in Zeebrugge and it's just some guys contracted to doing it on fords behalf. So i'd have trust that sending it to ford they'd do it properly (or at least better).

Will try get pics too if i remember.

Yep, I'd refuse it if they didn't correct the faults within a reasonable period of time. £30-£40k is a lot of money and I don't expect the car to be defective.

Well if they can do a proper job on a Fiesta then i'd expect the results to be the same on a Mustang, clearly going by the photos it's not, not only that isn't the Mustang their flagship, and it costs £20'000 more than my Fiesta.

And when I say proper job I don't mean a thin layer of black spray, all cars I've owned have like a thick rubber type sprayed on to the underside, the Mustang just seems to have nothing, a few knocks under there and these knocks/stonechips will soon start rusting.

Fiesta won't have been done in Zeebrugge, i doubt that at least, probably somewhere else.

Fiesta's are built in Europe, so will not need to be customs cleared as much as a car imported from the USA. So probablly just gets undersealed at the facotry? (Correct me if i'm wrong)

But yes, i'd expect their flagship car to have it done properly. Worth holding onto pictures of the underside if you plan to keep there car like 5-15 years, if something bites you on the a$$ and ford refuse warranty (assuming the 12 years before), you can show them the 'as new' underseal.

Yep, and then they'll say that it's only rusting because of the knocks/stonechips, so not covered under warranty.

If I thought it was a breach of warranty and they said get stuffed, I'd get it done anyway and let a Judge sort it out. Small claim. No costs. Would have thought it was cheaper to get the underseal done privately than lose £1,000.00 deposit.

Any of you lucky existing owners got a copy of the warranty document that you would be willing to post up ?

Anyone know a reputable company for getting the work done ? National would be good - might be a deal to be done.

Well if I don't pull out of the deal my car will be in the bodyshop ASAP, these car have no underside stonechip protection on them at all, may aswell treat the cars underside like a classic car restoration, the reason our cars have all the black stuff in the middle and none on the sides is to do a proper job the cars sides need masking to stop over spraying going up the sides, I guess the company in Zeebrugge don't have the time to do it properly as it would take a whole day atleast to do a proper job.

So I was checking the Wallenius and Wilhelmsen shipping site to see what VIN number we were up to booked onto the ships when I came across these:

Undersealing 1.webp

Undersealing2.jpg

I know this is Toyota but it is W&W and it shows undersealing with a firehose so this is likely the sort of thing happening to our cars :headbonk:

It is shocking that they do this once the car is built. They'd be as well not bothering.

Maybe a stupid question but why don't they get under sealed in America? I mean, they have all weathers and some over there.
Was the S197 under sealed? Anyone have any problems years down the line? Anyone here with an import (& not under sealed) prepared to shed light on any underside rust issues?
