So I went ahead and installed the Turbosmart stock location BOV tonight. The install went pretty smooth but I'm having some issues that others have had. I'm now getting definite compressor surge(air chopping noise) when letting off in low boost as well as the whistle/flutter that ppl mentioned. I have the BOV set to full soft with the o-ring barely out of sight right now.

Also I could not get the O-ring on the tap to go all the way in no matter how hard I pushed lol. It's very close to being all the way in there and it's a very tight seal so I can't really imagine air escaping there.

My next idea was to try a lighter spring but I wanted to see if there are any other ideas first and if anyone has successfully gotten rid of the flutter

There's another thread where we were discussing this but it was kind of a side discussion

I'm running into the same issue at low boost levels. I'm slowly taking the tension off to see if there is a sweet spot, but no luck so far. IIRC, someone said there was a lighter spring to use, but can't for the life of me remember what color/tension it was.

Good idea I'll have to try that tonight

I do like the feel of the new BOV so I don't want to go back to stock but I'm not trying to f up my turbo with surge

You can change the spring but you are going to keep getting surge, the turbo is too efficient and causes issues with most BOV's. That is why the OEM is electronic, it is impossible to surge if the tune is setup correctly.

If you want a BOV and no surge you will need a Turbosmart SMARTport or a Synapse DV.

I got surge on my Turbosmart for a quite a while. It was rather annoying. I had enough of it, so I spent an afternoon adjusting it.

I must have went up and down this one canyon 3 or 4 times before I had it working properly. If I heard compressor surge, I would pull over and adjust it a bit and try again.

I hate that tap. It's damn near impossible to get it installed without pinching and tearing the o ring.

Here is what I did to fix that... Just got rid of it completely.

The tap they include is actually an issue, everyone that has this BOV should actually be taping into a direct vacuum source. Turbosmart has replaced the adapter once I brought it up to them as an issue.

The original adapter actually causes the charge air temp to read incorrectly as the sensor it goes under is a TMAP which measures pressure and temperature.

I'm not sure I've seen anyone mention trying the green spring yet so that might be worth a shot.

I'm running the stock tuning at the moment until I can make sure I have it set up right, but I'll see if we can get this taken care of via tuning if I still have it after a spring swap

Tune isn't going to do anything, it is 100% mechanical and open/closes based off vacuum/boost. Even if you request no WGDC down low the turbo will still make 7psi almost instantly and the BOV can't react fast enough.

Interesting... I didn't know it also measured temp as well.

That it does, that is where your charge air temp comes from :)
