One of the biggest questions is if I tune my car do I lose my warranty and the answer is maybe. if you tune your car and the tuner locks your computer then yes you will lose your warranty. if you take it to the dealership after it blows up and they see that it’s locked you will lose yourWarranty. If it’s not locked up, the engine blows do not tune it back to stock. Leave the tune in there. If it’s not locked the dealership won’t know that it’s they don’t go in and compare the tune they’re gonna go in there and see if it’s locked. There gonna go in there and see if it has ignition key cycles. so if you have an unlocked computer and something happens and you tune it back to stock then you gave them grounds to fight the warranty. Now, depending on what state you’re in you can still win, but if you don’t tune it back to stock just leave the tune in there. They’ll see that it is not locked and that it has key cycles and it’ll be no problems. so I tell everyone you’re better off getting HP tuners and then paying $500 to take the class to learn how to tune your own car and you can keep your warranty. or you can pay $1200 for someone else to tune itand have a good chance of losing warranty. I won’t get a tune from anyone that locks the computer.

Rule of thumb that has been stated a bazillion times.

If you can't afford a potential large dent in your wallet, then don't get a tune. There really is nothing else to be said. It is all the advice that ever needs to be given. Do people heed that advice? No, lol.

It would be extremely unusual for an NA tune to blow up your motor anyway, but @lo-fi has it right. If you are depending on your warranty to make your car affordable to you, then it is best not to tempt fate with a tune.

Besides its not going to make that much more power unless you start moving towards FI and then your warranty is totally out the window. You'd be better served with handling upgrades if you want to do a mod that actually causes a noticeable effect on day-to-day driving.

What a long run-on sentence. I think I read it all in one breathe 😂

When my car blew up, the dealer didn’t care that it was tuned. As long as it was in their possession as stock, and they can access the computer, it was fine.

What a great dealer. Anyone have recommendations for a dealer in Metro Detroit that would be so cooperative? Part of the problem is Ford has the highest warranty costs in the industry and they are cracking down on dealers by second guessing their charges and looking for ways to deny claims.

I’m grateful for my Ford service advisor. I have an extended warranty outside of Ford so she fought hard with them to get my repairs covered. Previous owner modified the car and the dealer I bought it from didn’t tell me.

When was that? I thought I saw a note from Ford instructing dealers to first and foremost check the flash count on the ECU before doing any work. Certainly a major repair like an engine would trigger Ford to verify that, but maybe it was a while ago before this initiative was put into place?

I don’t believe that the ford dealership can check how many times the ecu has been flashed. My ecu has been flashed more than 30-40 times and they never said anything about it

You are absolutely right so if someone uses a NA off t shelf tune and something does happen it probably has nothing to do with the tune. So should ford be allowed to deny the repair because of a tune that caused no damage?
The warranty specifically states that they can only deny the repair if the modification caused the damage.

LMFAO….. here we go again…. geez.

It’s been discussed ad nauseam on here with 100% facts that Ford knows how to check for PCM flashes, tunes, key counts, etc, etc…

And why do you keep posting BS about Ford Warranty and that a tune can’t be found? You’re the same individual who started this lengthy thread about the same false topic and bailed on it when facts were posted …

Give it up already.

Ignition Key cycles in a fact. But ecu flash counts by ford I call bull sh!t. I had easily 30 flashes on my ecu. It also had a hp tuners tune in the ecu. The only thing that was mentioned was the ignition cycles. They tried everything they could to get out of it so if they had ecu flash counts available they would have used them. If they could tell that the tune wasn’t stock they would have used it. So unless someone can prove otherwise I call bull sh!t

I have seen ford deny an engine warranty on a stock mustang because they put 20” wheels on there car and it came with 19”. So they will tell you whatever they think you will believe. So if you just bend over then ford will make up anything.
