Hello everyone, does redline make a trans fluid thats compatible with the 3160? Back when I had my gen 1 coyote, I put amsoil trans fluid in and didnt like it at all. Notchy. Then I used Redline, I think it was MTL and the trans felt super smooth. Made a huge difference. Thanks!

Hello everyone, I recently put in a Vengeance stage 2 clutch and after the break in Ive realized sometimes the trans is a bit harder to put in 1st gear from a stop or downshift into any gear. Not all the time, more so after the car is hot. So I figured Id try something easy first, car has 35k miles so its probably not a bad idea to change fluid anyways.

Hmmm... sounds like your clutch may be dragging just a touch when it's hot. If all the other gears are normal when you're moving and first is giving you trouble at a stop, that might be a signal.

As for fluid, Ford specs Mercon LV ATF for the 3160, so Redline's D6 ATF will work fine. Of course, you can run other fluids if you like. I run Motorcraft MT82 DCT fluid in mine. When mine was new, it ground a bit going into 2nd, so I bought about $500 worth of other ATF's, DCT's and MTF's - all the "better than OEM' brands - and after testing the lot, none shifted as smoothly as Motorcraft DCT.

Cool thanks for the info! Ill probably give the Redline a shot since I had good luck with their fluid before. If no luck, Ill give the MT82 DCT a shot

BG Syncroshift with MGC, we've used it in every Tremec transmission made from Corvettes to Mustangs.

I've got a 2022 Gt 6 speed manual transmission with 12k miles on it.
It has a wine-ing sound from the rear of the car, I bought 3 quarts of ford dct n 2 quarts of 75-80 ford gear oil, was planning on changing mt82 n rear diff on next motor oil change.

There's lots of threads of mt82 cocktails out there, 2 quarts of manual transmission fluid, one quart of gear oil.

I bought the car new, salesman told me to fill the differential up with oem gear oil cause the factory leaves them half full, boo...
So I added a out 3/4 of a quart to fill it up. Yep was never filled at the factory n dealer didn't bother toping it off either, boo...

Not sure what's wineing, might be the Nero zero tires.

Anybody mix oem dct with gear oil???

I hesitate due to warranty issue.

Salesman also said, don't put "purple stuff" in anything, doesn't met any ford specs.

My 24 silverado salesman said the same thing. Dont put "purple stuff" in.
He had one guy change out the transfer case fluid for royal purple, trashed transfer case, voided warranty...

My neighbor is BP executive, said royal purple is a gimic... purple dye in oil that doesn't met any spec.

Unless you are a tribologist, please do not do this.

It's definitely not the fluid.

It's not clear from your post what the problem with your MT82 is, or if there is one. If you've got a whine and a warranty, I'd check with the dealer first before you do anything yourself.

As for fluids, I can only talk about my experience with gear oils in an early MT82. I had a 2011 GT with an early MT82 that came from the factory with 75w80 gear oil in it. DCT fluid wasn't available for that gearbox when the car was built so Ford used regular gear oil instead. It was hard to shift when cold, so I tried a variety of other gear oils in it, starting with the "better than OEM" types including BG Syncro Shift II. In the end I settled on Ford's DCT fluid because it worked the best. At the time, there was a "break-in friction modifier" additive for the MT82 called XL-18. I ran that in the DCT fluid then, and I run it in my 3160 today.

My DCT/XL-18 combo sounds a bit like the BG Syncro Shift II/MCG combo. No doubt it'll work fine too.

Oh, and by the way, the diff on an S550 is "full" when the oil is 9mm below the bottom of the fill hole, so presumably that's the level the factory fills it to. I've read stories of problems (leaks, overflows, something) if the diff is overfilled to the bottom of the fill hole. I'm not sure I believe it, but since I only fill mine to the 9mm mark, I can't say for sure. If you're not taking your car to the race track, it probably doesn't matter.
