Well you have to look at it this way. He’s a douchebag. I mean recognizing douchery is important on knowing who you deal with. Me instead I would have had an a convo about your car, my cars, complimented you on it and offered you a beer. I’m sure after that you’d stop revving it when you went by just because I was cool with you. What says you?

For the most part I’m a Neanderthal so I would have revved it even louder after that interaction with him. But I’m just a monkey that walks on two legs. šŸ˜‚
Well, if you liked my car and were a good guy I would have continued revving because you enjoy the sound. When I hear a GT350 it makes me happy. I agree he's a jerk. He bought a house right on the main road in the neighborhood and then decided he doesn't like to hear exhaust noises. Stupid is as stupid does.

I did quiet down after the interaction, but more because it made me think some of the other (decent) neighbors were probably also annoyed, but they are good people and haven't said anything. I really don't want to be "that guy".

In CA, all an Officer needs for reasonable suspicion for a traffic stop (he already had that for no front plate and tint) and citation for loud exhaust is the Officers belief that it’s too loud, they don’t need a decibel meter. Some judges may agree, some may not, CA law (and most law) is intentionally left vague and therefore open to interpretation. Fighting cases leads to appellate courts and supreme courts findings and setting legal precedent that helps to find tune the understanding of the vaguely written laws.

Tint falls under window obstruction, front side windows and front windshield can’t be obstructed. It’s the same thing that stops you from hanging fuzzy dice from the rear view mirror. 55% is still obstruction, even if it’s chicken shit… you can get stopped and cited for it (presumably by an asshole cop…?)

I’m willing to bet, if a case for a loud exhaust due to track mode went to a higher court, CA would just make it illegal to sell road vehicles in CA with track mode exhaust as an option. That’s just my personal opinion based on no information other than the fact that I have spent a great deal of time in CA.

As for the backed away and blasted his siren…

Police cars have three settings for lights (typically). 1 is just rear facing, 2 is solid forward facing red and blue lights with rear, 3 is rotating forward facing red and blue lights and sirens with rear.

When you slide to the third setting to pull someone over and then stop the car and put it in park the lights stay rotating but the siren turns off. As soon as you take it out of park the siren blasts again. I would imagine he was embarrassed more than trying to piss anyone off…

But what do I know, I’m just some guy…
terrible, fuck them. About they focus on the shit roads and crime before screwing with a stock vehicle.

You’re not wrong, but, generally speaking, CA law favors criminals and ties the hands of Officers in areas with huge crime issues. In the South OC area where crime isn’t like, say, South Central, cops do a lot of stuff like this. Maybe it’s slow, maybe he is a traffic unit and this is his job, maybe he didn’t have any friends in high school and now he’s a cop he likes to mess with people because he’s afraid of real police work, I have no idea. Considering all you got was a talking to and front plate ticket (easy fix) I’d say this interaction with the cops wasn’t terrible. Annoying, but not bad.

Lol, yeah for sure.

I’ve always thought I’d rather live around bored cops than ones that are super busy šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Cops need to fight crime…not worry about exhaust. In my area they pull people over doing 52 in a 40 driving to work. Yet 5 miles away, drug dealers, murders, car thieves, pedophiles, people chillin driving around smoking weed living off the gov and that is cool. The last thing I would want is to defund the police. With that being said, the allocation of resources needs to change. In todays jacked up America, surely cops have better things to do than worry about tint and exhaust.

Actually I’m not young, and I’m about to retire to Florida. So I won’t be in this idiot state anymore. Not that Florida will be any better until I experience it but anything has to be better than California.
Well, then your just selfish. I like a nice thrump'n exhaust but I understand that many don't, they don't want to hear it at 6am or 10pm. just like most don't want to hear bass boom booom boom, At odd hours.
It is called respect for others, Some have it some don't.
Good luck in Florida. They don't put up with crap. enjoy.

It is about the money. In a perfect world they not worry about speeders that are 10-15 over the limit of tint, loud exhaust, etc. but It isn't. And frankly with the da's and courts slapping thugs hands and say'n don't do that again. and letting them back out, I kinda see why the popo can't be bothered. Only fix is get the DA TOST/FIRED.

This is the reasons most good officers stop all the cars you guys are complaining about. Virginia has made all those reasons secondary offenses meaning no and are reaping the rewards for the search of equity. But hey, I’m not gonna banter with you. They have net found a way to make stops for
moving violations illegal yet so this is still in play:
https://www.13newsnow.com/amp/artic...stop/291-e126aa17-579e-4f02-84c1-112acbae823f

And if you can’t read that big ass sign with the black numbers on it then you have another problem. Someone mentioned the broken windows theory. Unless you are blind, you have seen first hand what happens to driving habits when the police stop enforcing the traffic laws. The roads have turned into race tracks.

Reallocate resources, do you want even more social programs to use that money because that’s where it’s being allocated to. There’s a much larger picture that some of you seem to be blind to and some clearly get it. Im way closer to the end than the beginning so I won’t have the fortune of living in the world that’s being created by the left, convincing you that the cops are the bad guys for trying to make the world a better place. You my friends get to have a bite of that shit sandwich.

Blah, blah, blah, when the popo let an un lic. un insured go after a wreck , but will pull me over for tint.
Ya, and the wonder why the general public has zero respect for the uniform anymore.
A few years back, 2018 I got t boned , the driver that hit me, had NO insurance and NO valid drivers lic. They handed him a ticket to show up at court and let him go, never to be seen again, While my car was totaled and MY insurance had to cover it. The other guys vehicle was NOT insured and he had no valid drivers lic. but they let him drive away. HELLO..
This is the norm the last 5 years, just let them go and hope they show up for the court date, you know and I know that isn't going to happen.
I used to respect the uniform, not anymore.

That s unfortunate on the insurance lack of enforcement. and it will get worse as it s not enforced . But then we can t paint everyone with one brush . Every state, department and officer are all a little different and so we see what looks like inconsistent enforcement. But it s the best we have I guess. My insurance company in the state of TN that I m moving to told me our rates are high there because we are all paying for uninsured motorist .
So that s the point that the more laws are not enforced, the more they get violated .

Example/. everywhere I ve lived if you get caught even driving without insurance you get a ticket, your car gets towed and impounded and you then have a surcharge for several years on your insurance. talk about inconsistency .

They are backed into a corner as the police brass tell them what groups they have to look away from for fear of push back for doing their job.
Example , here 90% of the population in the area is one race, The brass got blasted because the % of that group getting pulled over or cuffed and stuffed was much higher than all the others. It didn't matter that 90% of those living here are one race. So now, it is a free for all. As the brass has no backbone to tell the ones in office to take a hike.
So now to fill the quotas (I know I know there isn't any quotas wink wink) they go after that 10% a lot more than the ones that make up 90% of the local population.
Sadly the officers that are now the brass have been neutered or know follow along if they want to keep their career. It ain't right, and it's going to blow up in everyone's face.
I personally know a bunch of officers and they are just putting in their time till they can get out as they have families to support and if they do the right thing, the public hates then and the brass makes their work life a living hell.
I asked a decades old friend that is now high up in the upper brass of the force what the hell is going on, and he said if he wants to keep his job, he has to do as he is told by the powers that be. or resign , he has 4 more years, and too much to lose to say duck it.
So while an altima goes by with limo tint they won't do anything, but my legal tint will get the gumball machine just to make sure it is legal and fill the officers time.
I don't dare drive around with the exhaust in track mode.

The OP's situation reminds us that elections have consequences. However, so do our actions. I agree the sound of our cars is cool and we get the temptation to cut loose. There was a local park where younger people would hang out on Sundays. It got over-crowded and things began to occur to warrant more police enforcement. Soon, we were getting harassed and ticketed for minor issues, such as window tint, expired licenses, etc. There's a time and a place for certain driving behavior, or the karens will complain and the law will come down. Yeah, I sound like my dad and what he used to tell me...
