While at a track day event this weekend I found a new thing; 2016+ models have a lap timer as part of the Track Apps and the '15s don't. :( I thought BMR Tech was full of it when he was telling me he was tracking is lap times via Track Apps...

I didn't spend enough time to see what other differences there are in the Track Apps between the model years, but I'm sure there others.

Hmm I'll have to check it out on my next track day. Do you just set the start line or how does it work?

From what Kelly said you have to push "Ok" each time you go by the same spot you stated it on. Not 100%, but better than nothing on the 15. :)

That leaves a lot of room for error! Usually going 100+ at most track start/finish lines. But will try to mess around with it anyway.

I think it is pretty accurate. Or can be.

If you are somewhat consistent with the timing, the pattern should show up in your lap times.

If you are off once you get into the rhythm, it will show up.

For example:

1.20
1.19
1.18
1.18
1.17
1.19
1.17

Assuming all laps are made clean, and nothing during the laps to slow down...you see the 2 second change....which, would likely be hitting the button too late on one lap...which has an effect on the previous, current and next lap.

All of mine were pretty normal looking last Sunday, and matched what I felt they should have as far as a pattern.

On the other hand, when dealing with GPS and electronics...you also have a margin of error.

I think if you get into a rhythm and have a good spot...and feel you hit it consistent....it is pretty accurate. I mean, being off by 1+ seconds would seem to be rather hard to do...if you really think about it, unless intentional.

I will compare my on board timer to a GPS system soon.

...on that note. I have a cool idea for an expansion tank that connects to the OEM drain....with finned bottom.

If I can get the time, I will fab it up and test it out.

Stop it you. :paddle:
Actually, I was just informed that a guy I use for custom stuff....is working on a higher capacity diff cover with fins and more effective heat dissipating shape.

I pick a point on the main straight as soon as you are going in a straight line. That is where it is easiest for me to hit the timer and I have not found it to be a problem (though I have been known to forget it when in heavy traffic). It works pretty well.
