And here's an entirely different option... I picked up a Garmin Virbe XE last week to see how it does since it has everything built in; gps, meta data overlays, etc. All it needs is the ODB2 dongle.

A quick "highlight" vid of a really boring drive I took this weekend; this was auto-generated with the free software from Garmin. The only thing I did was add both GPS and OBD speed (on the left, stacked) and a second RPM/MPH gauge on the right. There are dozens you can choose from.

The box on the top right is where the track layout would be... I have a track day this weekend and will give this a shot and see how it does.

Ohh, Me like! I've been thinking about picking up a Virbe. You just tipped me over the fence.

How long does the battery last?

Actually have and used the Garmin for bicycle racing. How and where do you have it mounted? Any pics? Thanks!

That was a 1.5 hour drive and it used about 50% I believe. I read with the latest firmware they are good for 4 hours which sounds about right.

Now I have no idea yet how it will be for lap times since it's not a track-centric setup. I'll run this along with TrackAddict this Saturday and do some comparisons and post up the results.

For straight up video and basic meta data overlays, the Garmin is SO much easier than the GoPro. Best $183 auction I ever won on ebay. lol

What mount for the VIRB are you using to attach it to the seat?

The MMR headrest mount w/gopro option.

Here's a video from yesterday w/the Virb. Overall I'm happy with it, but I think the GoPro has a better contrast. When I use a GoPro on the headrest mount both interior and exterior views are clear. With the Garmin the outside view got a little washed out. It could also be due to having a passenger and the seat position being different from where I normally have it... It's easier to use and has the built in features so I'll take the trade off in quality. Also, exterior sound wasn't so hot, but neither is the gopro...
