TR-3160 into a GT?

Any shops with a GT350 looking into this? I know that the Magnum XL is a great option. But at around $6000 said and done, I cant help but wonder...


Does a TR-3160 accept the same clutches as a MT82?

Does a TR-3160 accept the same driveshafts as a MT82?

Is the TR-3160 at least a little beefier than the MT82?


I would think that Ford would have some small incentive to the transmissions being partly interchangeable since they go into the same chassis. But its also just as likely that there is zero compatibility at all aside from the bellhousing pattern.

But it sure would be nice to know.

Ik the clutch is not the same, lethal had to have a custom unit made for their whipple charged gt350, something about the throw out bearing being a part of the flywheel I think. The other two questions I'm not sure on but I wouldn't bet on the same driveshaft

As of August when I asked, Tremec had no intention of releasing it to the aftermarket. Unless Ford puts them in the catalog, they will be hard to come by or pricey. I would love to have the gear spread in the 'C' version. Currently only available from Ford or Cadillac.

Looks like they are about 3800 from Ford. Not inexpensive by any means, but if there was compatibility with clutch or driveshaft it could have introduced overall savings.

I had one shipped to me for quite a bit less than that but you do get bit by the core charge. They are not hard to come by. Simply a matter of ordering from your favorite Ford dealer.

If you're making 815 Rwhp forget it. In my opinion lethals gt350 with the 819rwhp Whipple, the tranny will be the 1-2-3 thing to go, either the axles, diff or tranny. Unless they replace the stock gt350 axles with the new soon to be released axles ford performance is offering (which I plan to get ASAP). But I'm assuming they will be using slicks or drag radials since they like drag racing.
