Does anyone know where the top well drain holes are located under the car? Are there drains in the well? Or does the water run around the base of the top at the trunk lid until it empties out into the quarter panels at the rear quarter windows?

Thx

AFAIK, the well is part of the interior, so no drains there. When the top is up, any water that is at the back makes its way forward and drains out at the rear side windows.

There are hoses on either side of the top well - they discharge to behind the rear wheel on either side. I don't know how to clean them - they look like the top part would be a nightmare to access.

Apologies for the poor photo, but you can see the hose behind the wiring.

Ahh, I am proven wrong, which is okay. You would not think that these would be a very strong candidate for clogging, as they wouldnā€™t be subject to many bits and pieces, like the cowl drains would be. I would think that youā€™re more likely to see the body drains at the bottom of the top mechanism clog, since stuff can get down in there quite easily, especially if you drive top down without the tonneau covers on, as many of us do.

Thanks, sort of. I have no reference point based on the picture. Is this an image of the top well with the bottom liner removed? Or is it from inside the trunk below the top well with the trunk liner removed? Or ... well ... where?

If I can find one end of the hose I can use compressed air to blow out any junk that may be in the hose.

Thx.

My apologies, I thought that the photo may be self explanatory as I said it was behind the rear wheel.

I noticed the hoses when I pulled the trunk liner out to fit the subwoofer - that photo is the floorplan. You would have to access them from underneath the car.

I have absolutely no idea how you could access them from above, but I could see using an inspection mirror that they went up to the top well - I've also confirmed that coupes don't have the hoses, so that's definitely what they are for.

Thx much. I haven't pulled the trunk liners yet. I've only pulled the rear plastic trim panel between the tail lights when I installed my trailer hitch wiring. I was hoping I'd never have to remove the felt liners in the trunk. I'll try to find the output end of the hose behind the rear wheels but on first inspection I couldn't find them. I may have to pull the fender liner to find the hoses but I'm hoping to avoid that experience too, thank YOU very much.

If I ever find the end of the hoses I'll post some details/images.

Thx again.

I found the end of the drain hose under the car ...

TopWellDrainHoleLocation.jpg

It's located just behind the rear wheel. If I find the other end of the tube I'll post it as well.

I copied the part number for the pass side drain tube but it doesn't show up on Ford's on-line part number search database. Maybe it's an obsolete part number but I doubt it.

So I found the top of the rear drain holes around the base of the top. You can't see it, you have to feel around the base of the canvas at the rear of the car. This is what the drain hole would look like if you could see it...

Here's where the drain is located. There's one drain on each side of the car...

I opened the top about a 1/3 of the way so I could nose around the base of the top at the rear of the car. It makes it easier to access the drain ridge at the back of the top.

I haven't used air to clean out the drains yet. I've only gotten as far as locating them. Since I won't be able to get my air compressor fitting into the drain from the top I'll have to access it from under the car. I'll open the top 1/3 of the way again to give the top of the drains some room to allow any debris to be expelled a little easier.

Very good information on the location of the drain access. Several years ago I left my vert out in the rain which resulted in the interior filling up with water. Still under warranty it cost the around seven thousand dollars and two months time for the local dealer to repair. The dealer could not handle the repairs themselves and sent it out to a convertible top specialist. I still have the car and it always stays in the garage at night and I never drive it in the rain.

Anyone know if thereā€™s an actual fix?

I get water pooling in the rear quarter and the floor of rear seat.

Thanks in advance

I've tried to put a clear hose in the hole to try to blast/clean with air or clean water but it goes only maybe 1/2 inch. So I didn't completed my test. Will raise the car this weekend for something else and see if going by the bottom results would be better.

I was able to use my compressor with the correct fitting to blast air up from the bottom hole all the way up through the drain holes at the top. Fortunately there were no blocks or restrictions in my drains but I'm determined to keep it that way. I put the pics of the drains here to help others to keep their drain holes clean as well.

If you have a blockage in the drain you should be able to remove the trunk liner behind the fender and disconnect the rubber drain hose at both ends to clear it. It's a little awkward to get at but it shouldn't pose any great effort to remove. Food for thought.
