Governor Limited Top Speed is 155mph not 164 mph. Also this car with 3.15 or 3.31 gears should be capable of hitting 180+ mph no problem. I grew up in europe and even a Stock Honda Civic with a whimpy 1.6 lt 120 hp motor can reach up to 231 km/h or 144 mph. There is a youtube video to prove this. Our cars however are geared for acceleration not top speed. But if a civic can do 144 mph what do u think a 435 hp more aerodynamic beast can do? I m estimating 180+ mph.
I'm afraid you're seriously underestimating how fast the aero resistance gets at those speeds and the power it takes to overcome it. Just because you might have revs left on the tach with any gearing you think is best means nothing once drag force equals the acceleration force at the rear tire contact patches.

Based on what was reported for my car (~145) and scaling that up by the difference in power (435 vs 300) ends up with . . . wait for it . . . 164 mph. If I credit the new car for having slightly better aerodynamics, high 160's.

The ZL1 is using nearly 560 of its 580 HP to get to 184 mph, quite a jump from 435. At 180, it would still need about 525 HP.

A magazine did 174 mph with my old car which was an ls3 camaro with 3.31 gears. Knowing my old car and my new car, if the drag coefficient is lower than the camaro, then 180 mph is reachable. Ford still haven't given us the Cd coefficient there is that. If this car can not even reach 170 mph, then I ll be really disappointed period. Hell a car with a brick aerodynamics str8 challenger with 475 hp is governor limited to 175 mph or something like that. A brick seriously!

Go to youtube watch a 1.6 lt 120 hp Honda Civic do a 144 mph (232 kmh) then go to your mustang and bang your head as hard as you can to the hood:cheers:

I'll tell you what scares the Bahjesus out of me is catastrophic tire failure. I went 140 mph in my 2003 Infiniti G35 Sport Coupe, on Hwy 80 next to the Bonniville Salt Flats in Utah. all I could like of was...if my rear tire blows...I'm done for!

Theres a video on Youtube called Super Cuda. Its a rebuilt Cuda with a twin turbo Viper V10 motor. HP was off the Dyno. They planned on going over 200mph. Befor they went out...they put the car on the lift and went over the tires with a fine tooth comb looking for any possible defect.

Scary Shite man! Just be aware. Your tires are the limiting factor, not you rev limiter. :)

It's not fun.

I lost the right rear on my GT500 on the highway at 60 with no notice and that was enough of a freakshow, let alone at 100+.....

So you "know" the governor limits speed to 155 and not the 164 C&D tested/reported? I don't get your basis for this - I've driven 5 years in Germany, and not all cars are limited to 155 there, either. Some in fact, are limited to about 130 - but of course, in kph. Although 155 is a common limit, equating to 250 kph, the limiter setting varies widely.

There are some videos on Youtube of Mustang speedometer's but without showing a calibration those cannot be relied upon. Hopefully, someone can post a verifiable test.

C&D occasionally prints mistakes, but I think I'll take their report for the Mustang's top speed at 164 mph until a test proves otherwise.

According to mustang chief engineer Dave Pericak, v6 top is 121, ecoboost w/ pp 145 mph, 5.0 gt went up from last years 149 to 155 mph due to car will be sold in Europe. I grew up in europe 20 years spent there and driven on German Autobahns, never seen cars electronically limited there. They still have Rev Limiters but speed limiters the ones we have in the States don't exist. A Benz sedan can pass u going 280 kph or you can see a Golf Gti going 250 kph. All you need is a long stretch. Me myself did 210 kph with a 2010 Honda Civic Sedan. I don't know why C&D put 164 mph on their review. 164 mph seems to be the top speed of S197 mustang gt's without the speed limiter. They were limited to 149 mph.

I've done 143 MPH in a 300A GT with 3.55 fifth gear and still pulling strong.

With the top speed govenor removed, I doubt the GT will go past 180...if (and that's a big if), it's going to take a very long stretch of road/track to it. Once a vehicle gets close to 200 mph it takes a very large amount of HP to break it. Look at the last GT500, there's a YouTube video there where it tries to break 200 mph & it can't. I think it did 197 or 198 mph, it was close but couldn't do it. So, the GT500 had 662 HP, I personally don't think the GT with 435 HP can break the 180 mph mark. If somebody can do it & put a video out to prove it...that'd be great! (GPS indicated & not Speedo indicated).

I mean really long stretch like on a German Autobahn, Russia, Czech Republic, E5 highway in Istanbul kind of stretch and u can bribe the cops if you get pull over lol. German Autobahns some parts of it don't have a speed limit and its 100's of kilometers stretch. I don't know how long was the road they tested the GT 500, i remember that in that video the car topped out at 197 mph. Ford claims better aerodynamics with the new stang and i would love to see the top speed where the car stops accelerating due to drag force. The old ones were going up to mid 160's.

Maybe, but I got my doubts. Would love for somebody to prove me wrong tho.
