I have been debating whether or not to get the E85 tune for the last month or so. I drove over to DBR High Performance in Spring Hill TN today and spoke with the guys there. One thing they stressed and confirmed for me was that if you write a tune that is pretty much a line in the sand when it comes to engine warranty. I have the manufacturer warranty and then the dealership provides a lifetime drivetrain warranty on top of that.

Even so, I made up my mind that it would happen in the next month or so.

So, on the ride back I did a little "spirited" driving and out of nowhere, the CEL started flashing so maybe not just yet. I checked the code with Forscan and it was showing multiple cylinder misfires. I took it to the local dealership and they showed no codes.

My personal experience. At 28,000 miles metal shavings were discovered in the oil pan. Lund flex E85 tuned, GT350 manifold, LU47 injectors, JLT CAI, etc... Under factory warranty received a new short block and four new cams. Also installed MMR billet OPG/crank spline as part of the new block. (I paid for the gears) Personally from what I have seen it is a mixed bag. Some dealerships work with owners that mod their cars. Others don't. As a result of my good experience I plan to upgrade to a GT350.

Dealers are hit-and-miss when it comes to modded parts as well as having a aftermarket tune. If you're having a check engine light come on now it would be better to get it sorted out by the dealer to make sure you won't have any problems in the future after you start putting bolt ons and a tune. I would take it to the dealer first and if they said nothing's wrong I would make sure I didn't have bad gas to begin with or a bad ignition coil and so on.

This is why I want to give my 18 about a year before I tune it. I will do smaller "who cares" mods like catback and such but will wait for bigger things like headers and e85 until next year at least.

Always a good idea to 'ring' a car out while under warranty before doing any modding. A little patience now can be a big payoff in either warranty resolve if there is an issue OR some assurance if there isn't. Don't clear the CEL's (if you did) before going to the dealer if your issue crops back up. You can also always go to another dealer if you think they are inept in their ability or slack in their approach.

Get the CEL checked out. If all is good, get that E85 tune. It's a massive improvement.

Honestly, I would not have even bothered upgrading to pump tune, but the E85 is whole other ball game. Proven power maker and just really makes the car that much more enjoyable in part throttle driving. Torque goes way up in bottom part of power-band which is perfect on the street imo. Do it and don’t look back...
