Hello everyone,

Since I am new to the S550 community and I have recently begun my journey in to the modification world I thought I would pose a quick question that I cannot seem to locate much supporting information.

I recently purchased a pre-owned 2018 Mustang GT PP1 from a local dealer which had Stainless Power long tubes, High Flow Cats and a JLT Performance CIA already installed by the previous owner. My question is directly related to tuning - how am I able to verify if the previous owner installed a tune? And if so which tune was installed?

I than you all in advance for your input and I look forward to learning :)

I would personally ask for the previous owners name and number if they have it and contact the owner directly.

I personally know the General Sales Manager and have asked but at the same time I am not 100% sure of the privacy laws and the sharing of personal information with others??? Any thoughts......

That car is 100% tuned, it would not even run with the intake.

Now as far as who did it, that's pretty much impossible to tell unless you speak with the previous owner. You can theoretically scan the car and possibly get an idea of what was changed, but that won't tell you anything about who actually tuned it.

EFI, thank you for the insight - my biggest question is more directly related to what type of tune was installed | E85, etc. etc???

Well, there's not that many "types" of tunes available...and you can easily check off E85 as the car will not run on 93 unless it's some sort of flex tune. Odds are you have a basic bolt-on tune to adjust for the increased airflow through the intake and headers.

EFI, I appreciate the help bro! I am sure you are correct; hopefully in the near future I will be installing a Whipple and an Airlift suspension kit! - say goodbye to the standard tune :)

I would agree with EFI. No way someone is spending money on all the bolt-ons and not tuning it. You are in a bad situation though. You bought a modded car and I bet the dealership (and Ford) would automatically void the powertrain on that car now and you didn't even do any of that to it. Just be careful and maintain that car because you are on your own.

EBM, actually I was able to purchase a Ford 6yr - 100K mileage (not 5yr since the car was already a year old) warranty with the purchase of the car, and since I am friends with the GM it makes things a bit easier when problems arise :)

If you are looking to make sure its tuned right and if you're looking for E85 as well, a new tune is going to needed. You may just have JLT flash tune on it. You'll never know what tune is on it at this point. If you are looking to get a tune done, now is the perfect time since we are having our Black Friday sale on some of the biggest tuners in the market.

Then you need to get the previous owners info.... Hes probably expecting a call anyways at some point... However.... If he left the tuner with the car after trading it in then the damn detailers/car washers woulda probably kept it and its already long gone... And you may have purchased a extended warranty but ford aint gonna give two s**ts who ya know if its tuned or been tuned... no tuner located anywhere in the car? like hidden maybe

Steve,

I appreciate the heads-up but I will wait to tune until the Whipple is installed.

You can be friends with Donald Trump, Ford ain't gonna care.

If you bring in the car with a blow engine, the moment your GM buddy goes to Ford for warranty claim, Ford will look and see that it's been tuned and deny deny deny. I imagine no matter how nice your GM buddy is, he's not going to fork over 8 grand out of his dealership fund to give you a new engine that Ford denied.

IMO, whoever sold you that extended warranty basically took you for a sucker as it's 90% invalid. And if it's not invalid now, it will be when you install a big ol' Whipple on it.

To check what fuel its tuned for, look at your air fuel ratio on the dash menus, if its 14+ or so its 93, if its 9.8 its e85. I would be pretty sure its on 93

EFI,

Definitely agree with your reasoning - there is not a GM on earth who is going to be that gracious! When these cars are tuned is the time stamp visible once the tune has been removed? LOL, yes the warranty will be out the window as soon as the Whipple rolls on!
