Our huge stroller (one of those "system" strollers where you can snap in the infant seat) fits.

Like others have said, sharing the leg space between front and back seats will be a problem. My wife is 5'4" and it's a tight fit with a 3'1" toddler. An infant could fit behind me, 6'4", but that's about it.

It's a little awkward to put the kid in his seat but it works. We do it almost every weekend. My son likes the car but he prefers to sit in our 2003 Jetta because after removing the passenger head rest, he can see *everything*. His visibility in the Mustang is pretty paltry in comparison.

The other thing to consider is that a mess is bound to happen so if you plan on keeping your car clean it will be a little extra effort :)

My son always goes "whoops" when I oversteer :)

My heart says S550, my brain says something more practical!

My family's people mover is a 2014 Mazda 6 GS and we're really happy with it. Underpowered (wish there was a Mazdaspeed 6 Wagon) but it's roomy, sips fuel, decent manual transmission, comfortable and it can carry quite a bit of speed in a turn. The only negative so far with the car is that the roof is only rated to carry about 100lbs and we tend to carry stuff on a rack.

Is the trunk big enough to carry around a stroller and is the backseat ok for a car seat maybe 2 or 3 times a month? We primarily use the wife's CX5 but its a lease and is racking up the miles. There really arent any family haulers under $30k that I would enjoy.
Have tested with 2 buggies and both fit:
  • Uppababy Vista
  • Bugaboo Bee

I'm pretty sure you could get any stroller in. The biggest issue is the shape of the trunk opening - if the length of the buggy when folded is too long you have a job trying to get it through the gap - but both of the above fit.

Also - as it may be relevant to you - the best rear facing child seat (I tested 6 of the most common models in the UK) for the shape of the mustang's back seats is the Cybex Aton Q. That gives you the best legroom at the front.

Hope that helps.

Double stroller in the trunk with plenty of room for a full size cooler in front and detailing supplies. One photo shows with double stroller and a whole pile of clothes. Child seats fit fine and the rear facing actually leaves more room in this car than in our Mazda 3 for the passenger. The back seats are easy to use with forward facing seats and a little more difficult with rear facing. They'll probably fit in there just fine until they are about 13 years old. You can even tow a 1000lb trailer with this car if there isn't enough room! I take my kids everywhere in it almost everyday. But if you are stopping at 5 or 6 different places than the rear facing seat becomes a pain to take in and out. Only another month left and then both will be in forward facing seats so it will be easy after that.

I too have 2 kids now 6 and almost 5. Double stroller fits with PLENTY of room to spare. In fact, my mustang is WAY more practical than her Lincoln MKC (basically an escape). the Trunk is useless in her suv and the kids have about the same legroom (ok just slightly less in the stang ;) ). For groceries, the stang is much better too.. way more room for bags.

Are the kids a little tight? sure. Do they have to climb in? sure. end of the day... ask my wife when she tries to put them in her suv... they scream "NO I WANNA GO IN DADDYS CAR". so why not listen to them ! ;)

Based on recommendations in this thread, I went out today and purchased a Recaro Young Sport Hero.

I was never 100% happy with the fit of our Maxi-Cosi seat, as the bucket/bolsters seemed to force it out of position and there was too much front to back movement.

The Recaro fits perfectly, and seems really well made :) Thanks!
