2 vehicles in 20+ years one of them being a $180.000 car, we take that chance, cause our loyal customers wouldnt turn their back against us when we would see the next one to them at the price they pay.

The guy that bought the GT from us, is extremely happy cause he wanted that exact color and eqiupment on his 190k GT and he still brings it to us for service.
The guy who bought the 07 Shelby has since bought 3 more Shelbys from us and he is very happy as well.

So he paid $30K to get the color he wanted? OK, At least in this very rare instance, he has something that appreciated so he is at least even. And yet, with a little patience and a computer, he could have saved himself that $30,000 and still had his FGT in the color he wanted.

As for the other guy, I would put him in one of the 2 categories mentioned above. In his case, it is money down the toilet.

I think we see Dodge trying to prevent ADM on Hellcats because they don't a repeat of what happened with the Viper. When the new Viper first hit dealers, the crazy markups some dealers asked for pushed away a lot of customers (those customers were the most interested in the car). Those potential Viper buyers took their money elsewhere and Dodge dealers across the nation where stuck with Vipers they couldn't get off their lots. They can't even sell Vipers now without huge discounts.
And with the GT 350, My guess of an MSRP plus and ADM puts you in competition with a C7 vette, no ADM and no Waiting.

Well, it'll be interesting to see if or how much Chevy dealers attempt to markup the C7 Z06.

no he paid $10k. the sticker on the unit we had was $179000 and he paid $18900.

This was back when most of them sold for $225k-$250k. So he did indeed use the internet to find us. We didnt have a set ADM. We had it in the showroom and through his initial phone call he asked if we are doing the crazy $25k-$50k adm or will we accept his $10k offer which we did.

Im not looking for sympathy. I am not a dealer. so I wouldnt get a dime out of that ADM anyway. I am explaining to you that MONEY talks. Demand TALKS. while you or I refuse to pay the ADM, there are people that still do. And for as long as they pay up the price on unqiue limited edition unit, who are we to say what they should do.

Yes we have already made it clear that dealer makes 3% off if sold at invoice.
The maintnance is only if the vehicle is brought back for service.
No one said dealers are LOSING money. They are around just to make money. But you frown upon dealers cause of flactuating prices, yet you dont accuse any other businesses of not negotiating any prices with you and sticking firmly to their MSRP. Have you tried to negotiate a restaurant bill because you calculated that the steak they served you for $19.95 actually cost them about half that in cost?

By the way, your suppliers pricing wont be honored on a unqiue vehicle like GT350 or Ford GT. ;)

Cheers
Ugh...the stupid "restaurant/grocery store" counterargument car biz people use when discussing mark ups....you know this argument is as fresh as a Foghat concert right? You're talking 2 different industries.

Here's the rub on ADMs....dealerships can add them, but you really don't have the final say on setting the market price. You really don't and you must've thought my eyeholes brokeded because you took the liberty to bold Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price...when in actuality it's Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price. I may have the equipment and physical ability to have sex with my best friend's wife...but that doesn't mean I the right.

Bottom line...why use an ADM when all it does is piss off potential customers and leave cars dwelling on your lots for 200+ days (costing the dealership money in dwell time) and after all the huff and gruff...you remove the ADM and cut a deal anyways because bottom line...Dealerships need to move inventory to be profitable. We're heading into that time of year now when dealerships nationwide will be slashing prices to get MY 2014s off their lots.

Actually my Supplier Pricing depends on what automaker I buy from. I do get a couple grand knocked off a Z/28 if I went that route. Trust me...I looked it up when I started working here. Ford...last time I looked there wasn't a Supplier Discount for the GT500, but hey....you ask the Dealership this question, "Do you want to sell your car today?" and if I not...people can just walk. Then your GSM still comes into work tomorrow pissy because that car is still there on the showroom floor.

Did you even read what I said?

The two vehicle that we sold for over sticker, were not even on the lot beforew they were sold. We had them sold before they arrived.
We dont live in an area where have potential customers on $180k vehicles.
And the Shelby was the first one in the tristate area and we got a loyal customer out of that sale that has bought few more shelbys from us and potential GT350 customer for future.

It is a DEMAND vs SUPPLY market. No dealer in the right mind does ADM to a regular 2015 Mustang, but there are dealers out there that do.
Even the LE, could be sold at MSRP and keep both dealer and buyer happy.
The Price, MSRP is SUGGESTED by the manufacturer, but I dont see people crying over it when we sell a Mustang at $2000 below that suggested retail price :p;)

It is not a supply vs demand. It's a simple case of collusion. Dealers are justifying their ADM because "others are doing it".

I did read what you said and now I'm reading you basically skeeved 3 customers over sticker price just because you could and they were dumb enough to pay. The Demand argument your advancing is weak. People are demanding to pay more? Wow...I need to open a dealership in your area. The only time I could see where it would be necessary to sell over sticker is if you have 2 stiffs bidding on a car.

You know why people don't get upset when the vehicle sells under MSRP? Because dealerships advertise specials every month to get customers through the door and now with the miracle of the interwebs a smart buyer will do their research before they even set foot in your lot. Honestly...how can you be proud you sold over sticker to someone on an expensive car? Honestly...how can say you have a loyal customer that you sold the first Shelby to...over sticker...you know why this is sham? because the Automakers are starting to penalize dealerships that do ADM. ADM $$ goes straight to the dealership's pocket and not the manufacturer. Read the OP on this thread. Kudos to Dodge for doing the right thing.

OK I guess you can read but you still lack the comprehension of what you read :frusty:
Where and how did you get THREE customers, where I talked about ONE shelby and ONE Ford GT.
And if you would have read my posts, the first ADM on the Ford GT, was an OFFER from the customer. We had the vehicle in Showroom with no ADM. The guy called and said will you take $10k over sticker cause everywhere I look, its $25k-$50k over sticker. Should we have turned that offer down?

Secondly , with the Shelby, We put it on eBay with NO reserve. Auction ended and the highest bidder came down and bought it and now is a loyal Shelby customer. He has bought a total of 4 Shelbys from us the last 7 years. He wasnt forced to bid on that but he wanted to be one of the first to have the new Shelby body style that came out in 2007. If he was mad at us, he wouldnt have bought 3 more shelbys. And no we didnt charge him a dime over sticker on the other three. In fact on one of the shelbys he could use his A-plan from Ford.

If in your book, that makes us a bad dealer, then be it. You havent seen the real price gouging in dealers that goes on all the time. And I am against the ADM when it comes to vehicles that are all over the place.

Actually, text or not text, arguing with wife will not get us anywhere. :headbonk:

When a wife asks you for your opinion about something, she really isnt asking for your opinion. She wants to hear her own opinion in your voice.:thumbsup:

I'm a sales guy too and I don't like ADMs as I don't make money on them at all. But when we have done them they are paid upfront before the car even gets here. The case with GTs we've sold and the LEs we sold. It's the world we live in I receive calls all the time asking if we have LEs on the lot for sale so obviously in this case the demand far outreached the supply and justified a "market adjustment." I pretty much agree with everything RisingForce is saying. If you want to have the car first and can't possibly wait then you are paying for the bragging rights. We've sold GT500s both above and below sticker... mostly below truth be told. But every time its over the guy is freaking out about how he's gonna have the first one and his family is coming over or he's going to a car show with it.

Recent consumer site search shows 27 GT500's still in stock and for sale. 12 with ADM's.
