Here's one of my favorite GT500 sales stories (and I'm not making it up). When the 662 hp '13 GT500 was first announced, a customer showed up at our dealership wanting to order one. Had to be a convertible and he offered us MSRP if we'd order his first, so we did.

A few weeks later, a local musclecar collector calls me to order a 662hp '13 GT500. But, he conditioned his request by saying he had to have our very first one. I explained that we had already accepted a deposit for our first one. He said he would pay us whatever we wanted if we bumped the other guy. He's well known in our area and certainly had the means to pay any price. I explained the good news & bad news. The good news was that he wouldn't have to pay over MSRP, but the bad news was that he would have to take our #2 car because we would never bump the first customer as that would be just plain unfair and wrong. He got quite upset and asked what was wrong with me, wasn't his money good enough for us, etc. I simply explained that we have integrity and honor our word to our customers.

He ended up buying his way into the #1 spot at a different Ford dealer who gladly bumped another customer for Mr Big Shot's extra money. He was so happy about bumping that other customer at the other dealership that he called me back after the fact to gloat that he always gets what he wants and I missed a chance to earn his business.

That is a good story, what is with the collector? Acting just like a petulant child.
He's got quite a collection. Not all are Fords. I've spoken with him at local Mustang shows a number of times. He always has big stories about how much he spends at Barrett-Jackson and similar auctions. I've seen those cars at the local cars shows and they're nice cars, but it's almost as if he prides himself on spending way too much. Kinda reminds me of Varuca Salt in the movie Willy Wanka & the Chocolate Factory: "I want an Oompa Loompa and I want it right now" !!!

You should have given #1 guy the opportunity to be bought into the #2 spot by Mr. Big. Win / Win / Win!

Here is my guess

After Dealer Markup
Additional Dealer Markup.

It goes by other names at different dealers.

"Regional Adjustment"

"Market Value Adjustment"

Regional Sales Differential"

All the same lipstick on the same pig.

Hi There,

i just talked to my local dealer... the owner of that dealership told me, they want to have min. 10K markup... well i guess, they lost my business. I will definitely order one and I am happy to pay MSRP, so they won't get my $$...

I have an inquiry out to another dealer (they promised me last year I can order a SVT model for MSRP, we will see what they say... If not, i will be on the phone and find one, even out of state to order at MSRP)...

At least there is plenty of time to shop around :)

If I get a run around from dealers in northern VA, I will buy one from Brian and drive it home. :D

That's flattering, but I haven't decided how I'll price our GT350's yet. Heck, Ford hasn't even announced dealer allocations yet so there's no guarantee we'll even get (m)any GT350's.

It was incredibly difficult to price our GT500's back in 2006 when the 2007's first came out. We had a list of 300+ people on our GT500 list with only 6 units to sell. Those 6 customers all felt like they scored a great deal on their GT500's and we feel like we had a good customer-friendly price, but we left a lot of money on the table in light of what other dealers all around us were charging.

I'm still struggling with what the strategy will be with the GT350's next year. Good thing I have at least another 6 months to figure it out.

Yep. Lots of more important info on the GT350 yet to be released by Ford, pricing information not the least. The full list of options and standard equipment also being pretty important too.

Just because people call on a vehicle doesn't mean a thing. That's just talk. Now if there were actual sales and a wait list with people beating on the glass at the sales tower then sure...you might have an angle to justify it. Or a bidding war on car #1 like in Brian's story. Kudos to Five Oh Brian. That story alone makes it worth it to check out that dealership when these cars hit the lot.

Oh..sorry about the miscount on the cars earlier. I thought you said 2 cars and then the Shelby. Anyways...the number doesn't really matter. What matters is you screwed some people over and are happy to have found a "loyal" customer. Oh...and maybe if you did some reading in this thread you might come to conclusion that ADMs are not...how should I say this...not seen in a favorable light.

We can work together. I'm hitting Koons Sterling and Ted Britt Fairfax as my first stops, hopefully over the next few months if I can refer future customers to them I can wear them down. :headbang:

Well I found a local, straight shooting dealer who will sell me their first one for sticker. I had spoken to them a few years back about a GT500, same guy so I feel really good about this dealership. They're mid-sized and sold 3-4 GT500's in both '13-'14.

I've found during my inquiries that the larger dealers just care about today's deal and floor their specialty Mustangs for months on end with a $10K ADM sticker. The small dealers (if they even get one) will try to get you to put down a deposit over sticker.

If this deal goes through I'll be buying all of my Fords through them.
